pranicether Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 Newbie to this site today! I live in the Bronx and my son surprised me with a visit last night! He's in the military, was overseas and I haven't seen him for 3 years! I have 2 daughters, their husbands and 4 grandkids staying with me right now so my place is kinda crowded otherwise I would demand my son and his girlfriend stay here. My son and his lovely girlfriend desire to stay in Manhattan - their budget is $90 per night (up to 125) and the stay is from August 3 to August 17. While I would love for them to stay at the W Hotel, they're not picky and stated, they just want a room. Midtown/MSG, Times Square area may be ideal. I've read how to use this site and I will be sure to use the LINKS ON THIS SITE. Also I'm aware of the posting format for the results that we achieve. I'm excited and while they are out right now, I have taken on the task to getting them a great deal. I will be using Priceline but I will take a few more minutes to re-read some of the threads on here before starting my bidding. Any tips will be EXTREMELY appreciated. Sorry for the long story but I'm so excited and overjoyed at this surprise!Thank you again for this site and wish me luck as I start my bidding!
pranicether Posted August 2, 2011 Author Report Posted August 2, 2011 First question: Because it's such a long stay, should I break up the requested length? Instead of August 3rd to 17th, would it be better to book 3rd to 8th and then 8th to the 17th?
thereuare Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding!Glad to hear of the wonderful surprise of your son's visit.Unfortunately i don't think $90 (or even $125) will likely be enough for these dates. SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID can help, but still not likely, imo. They may be able to get 2-4 nites stays within these dates, but other nites will likely still prove to be quite difficult. What is the minimum star rating they're willing to accept? Would Hoboken, NJ or Brooklyn, NY be an option... or are they looking to stay directly in the Manahattan? Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.Let us know the above and we'll take it from there. pranicether Posted August 2, 2011 Author Report Posted August 2, 2011 Thank you for your reply.Yes, they definitely want to stay in Manhattan. This is going to be tougher than I thought *sigh*
pranicether Posted August 2, 2011 Author Report Posted August 2, 2011 To be clear, any room with private bathroom is good (no hostels). So I guess a 2 star would be fine as long as it's in Manhattan.

They were all rejected. I will now try the same price/zone combos with different dates. I will report back later.Again, thank you so very much. Wish us luck!

pranicether Posted August 3, 2011 Author Report Posted August 3, 2011 Unfortunately none of the bids were accepted and I went as high as $125 with the different dates. Fortunately, he was able to get a military discount when he called the hotel direct (staying at Penn Hotel midtown). I'm about to leave with them now.Oh well, the bidding exercise was good for me and now I'll be able to apply what I learned in the future. Thank you again for all your help and I'll be around this site for awhile. Have a great evening everyone and happy booking!!!!
AaronJB Posted August 4, 2011 Report Posted August 4, 2011 Thank you for closing the thread. Hope you enjoy your stay.
