Priceline Hotel: 3* Downtown Columbus

I'm really happy i found this site! i previously bid on priceline a few weeks ago with a 3* bid and was "upgraded" to a 4*. Sounds nice, right? Well, the issue with being upgraded in downtown Columbus is that a lot of the 4* hotels are located at the south side of downtown. This is great for lawyers since its close to the court house, but as for people looking to travel for the enjoyment of the city (restaurants, nightlife, downtown atmosphere, concerts) its not really where you want to be. I've noticed that you seem to have a better chance of getting towards central/northern downtown with a 3* hotel.

Is there anyway to avoid this dreaded 'automatic upgrade'?

If not, how would you suggest the best way for bidding exclusively for 3*?

There really isn't any certain way to avoid an upgrade except by only bidding in zones that don't have higher star levels available.

Sorry.

Sometimes people gamble, based on good knowledge of an area's rates at the different star levels. For instance, if 4*s in an area typically go for $200, a 3* bid for $50 likely is safe. But one never really knows.

Priceline does change zones from time to time. It would be worth checking back occasionally.

Can you please share the details of your win to the board as a NEW TOPIC... even if a bid/stay in the past, the information may be able to help another user in the future.

There is no way to avoid an upgrade... if there is a part of the zone you're trying to target/avoid, or a hotel you're trying to target/avoid, HOTWIRE can be a better option since you can take an educated guess as to the property you may receive.

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.

Feel free to ask for help before your next 'opaque' hotel purchase.
