blameyourelf Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 Hi, we've booked a trip to NY from the 5th to 11th September (unaware at the time of booking that it coincided with the US open tennis, and can't change the dates now!). It'll be our first time in NY, and would ideally like to be somewhere fairly central, midtown or similar; plans will involve mainly tourist stuff and some shopping! Any idea what sort of prices we'll be looking at for hotels at that time? Are we likely to be able to get 3.5/4* places for less than $200/night? Thanks in advance for your advice.
thereuare Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! You can probably get something 'nice' within your budget, but whether it's a 3.5* or 3* depends upon your perspective. For example, HOTWIRE has what i'm guessing to be the Doubletree Chelsea for $206/nite... this is 3.5* rated by HOTWIRE but only 3* rated by PRICELINE.Note that when bidding 3.5* in NYC there are some 'caveats' to be aware of...CPS zone has the Hudson hotel which get decent reviews except for notoriously small rooms (~150sq ft)... would this be acceptable?MTE zone has some hotels which can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway... would this be acceptable?Let us know your thoughts on the two zones above / possible outcomes and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
