marbyx Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 Does anyone know any tips or tricks to make sure my hotel via priceline is a beachfront hotel?I am using zone 9 only and from the hotels list here, I think all the listed hotels ARE beachfront. But, there could also be hotels that are not listed that aren't beachfront, right? Also, this is my first post and my first time trying out priceline. Is it maybe easier to use hotwire to get a particular hotel? Thanks in advance for any help you might have.Travel date: 8/12 - 8/14 - late arrival, prefer late check out for 1 adult, 1 child. This is a really great site!

lterry Posted July 18, 2011 Report Posted July 18, 2011 Does anyone know any tips or tricks to make sure my hotel via priceline is a beachfront hotel?Hey,Funny ... I had the same concern. I'm headed to St. Pete tomorrow (7/18) - wanted to make sure I got a beachfront room. I also figured out zone 9 has only beachfront properties so held my breath and went for it. I got the Sirata - 3* for $65 (retails for about $116 - HOTWIRE secret price was $82.00). If you're still nervous, you can pay the premium at HOTWIRE, and pick from the hotels with the BEACHFRONT icon (the umbrella). The umbrella with an arrow is "walking distance" to the beach. Have a good trip !

marbyx Posted July 28, 2011 Author Report Posted July 28, 2011 Not sure of the format I'm supposed to use, but wanted to report a rejected bid of $80 for 3* in Zone 9 - Treasure Island/St. Pete Beach for Aug 12 - 14.I bid 4 times, starting at $50 and added dumb zones that didn't have any 3*s or higher. Got up to $80 and ran out of dumb zones. I guess I have to wait for 3 days to try again? I'm really surprised, seeing as there's some $65 wins in that zone here. Do you think I just need to wait til closer to travel date to get that room rate? This is my first time actually bidding, though I've been researching for a few weeks.

marbyx Posted August 17, 2011 Author Report Posted August 17, 2011 Just wanted to add a review. I had ZERO problems with either my rental car or the Sandpiper purchased through priceline. The Sandpiper gave me a free upgrade to a nice suite. Room 1807, which is in the adult only pool courtyard. It was very quiet. The original priceline room was going to be facing the parking lot and in the driveway to reception (read: lots of car doors slamming - and lots of noise from the Howard Johnson's Beach Bar Karoake - OMG that was horrid).I asked at the front desk how much a little upgrade would cost. They quoted me $40/night more for Gulf View. I didn't need/want a Gulf View so I said "thanks, but that's beyond my budget". Then she offered me the free upgrade. :)All the staff were wonderful, very polite. If you are traveling with little children, you'd probably be much happier at the Tradewinds Island Grand. There are more pools there that aren't as deep. The shallow ends of the ONE family pool at Sandpiper is 4ft, so that means... Mom had to get in with child... when I really just wanted to grab a chair and lounge while kid swam. Oh well. The cabanas... really nice and really far from the water. Don't expect to be able to lounge in a cabana and watch the kids play in the surf. You can't see the surf from the cabanas b/c there is a slight bump/hill that obscures your view. We ended up just taking our stuff down to the water's edge and parking it on a towel. Never used the cabana.. but if it was a couples trip, we sure would have!Bring your own sand toys, inflatables, noodles. Sandpiper supplied none of these things.Water was fabulous 86 degrees. NO jellyfish! If you are traveling with children and want to partake in any kids' activities or the kids' club - best to just stay at Island Grand, b/c that's where ALL the activities are. Next time I'll def. try for Island Grand, but would be just fine with Sandpiper again.Oh one more thing.. don't count on the wifi internet connection to work there. I never got it to work, and I am a techie chick. So, if you need it for work... like I did.... you are SOL.I am so happy with my first Priceline experience! Can't wait to do it again and since we fly free(airline emps)... that will be real soon!
AaronJB Posted August 17, 2011 Report Posted August 17, 2011 Fantastic deal for this property and glad to hear you had such a great first PRICELINE experience!
