Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and need help to identify hotels on Hotwire for Vancouver (aug 29-30) :

1) Downtown Vancouver West area hotel, 5-star for $135

- fitness

- pool(s)

- restaurant(s)

- business center

- hi-speed internet

- spa services

and 85% Hotwire-users recommended

2) Downtown Vancouver West area hotel, 4-star for $125

- smoke free rooms

- fitness

- pool(s)

- restaurant(s)

- business centre

- hi-speed internet

and 95% Hotwire-users recommended

4.5 on tripadvisor

Please help to ID the hotel, is it Pan Pacific or The Sutton Place Hotel? Is there anyway to identify it?

Also any idea why only 85% recommended?

The 5* matches both the Sutton Place and the Pan Pacific, and as both hotels use this amenity set, and no additional clues offered by HOTWIRE, there is no way to guess which is more likely then the the other. I wouldn't be too concerned with 85% recommendations by previous HOTWIRE guests, that is a perfectly acceptable number, imo.

The 4* would appear to be the Coast Coal Harbour and that would be my best guess for this one.

I booked by clicked the HOTWIRE link below. I wanted Pan Pacific and got it. (we are taking a cruise)

One thing I guessed is that Pan Pacific got 90% recommendation and The Sutton Place got 85% (by reading Tripadvisor reviews). I waited until I saw the 90% one offered. (it seems that hotwire offering those two alternatively).

Glad to see you received the hotel you were hoping for and are pleased with the results.

Note that HOTWIRE often fluctuates the 'recommended by' percentage from one search to the next (i've seen it change by as much as 15% from high to low) so this is not a reliable indicator to help identifying hotels (at least not when you're looking for a 5% difference). My guess is that the hotel you purchased is the same hotel that was previously showing 85%.
