Priceline Hotel: Bidding Vancouver

HI!

This is my first time and your web site is very helpful. I'm bidding for a 4-star in Downtown Vancouver on Priceline from this site. 2 days ago I bid $85 first for just Downtown, then adding the Entertainment Center. Yesterday I did the same for $90. After reading all the tips, today I bid 18 combinations (including zones without a 4-star) from $85 - $110. I left out the Entertainment Center at $100 & up. At $110, it offered me a property for plus $29 (so $139) which I didn't accept. Hotwire is $131 today, was $132 yesterday. I signed up for alerts from Priceline and 3 days ago one in downtown went for $110, 2 days ago one went for $114, none the next day, and today one went for $119. So they are going up. Does anyone know if there is a certain day of the week the properties 'release' units or evaluate the lowest price they will take? For instance, I've read it's best to go airfare shopping on Tuesday.

The reason I would rather just look in Downtown is because the majority of 4-stars have a King or 2 Queens. I saw a couple in the Entertainment Center that have just a Queen. I'm travelling with a 73-yr old woman (& I'm 62), so we would prefer our own beds, or a King which is like 2 separate beds....and thought our chances to be better in Downtown.

ok - I forgot the dates. I'm looking at 1 room from Sep 6-9, 2011 for 2 people

The PRICELINE email alerts are for wins in the zone but not for your specific dates, so you can't really use this information for help with bidding parameters your own dates.

There is no set time for updates to the system, hoteliers are constantly updating their rates based upon supply/demand factors (ie- new reservations and cancellations) at their property.

I suspect you're very close, what is your maximum bid for this stay?

I guess $131 is my top. I don't usually stay at 4 or 5 -star hotels, as I'm usually not in them except to sleep, and not there long enough to use facilities such as the pool. This time I'm sharing with a friend before we embark on a cruise and I'm thinking the difference between splitting a cheaper 3-star and $131 (Hotwire 5-star) is worth it to 'splurge' Thanks for the info about the different dates - I'll keep that in mind.

When you got the plus $29 counter-offer from Priceline, that means there is something between your last bid and the +$29 point.

People have been successful with only $1 or $2 additional.

More often than not, people are successful by the time the reach the mid-point of the counter (+$14.50 or $15).

Your odds are really pretty good if you bid on up to the $125 mark in small increments.
