dchobo Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 Bid mistake! I was bidding for 4* Las Vegas (Strip North) from $100 up... I thought Summerlin was a 3.5*, but there was a "resort" button too. What I thought was my last rebid of $130 was accepted. Hotel website price is $165.Called PL to try to cancel but they wouldn't budge. Called hotel to try to cancel but the receptionist flatly said I will have to cancel with PL. Will try again in the afternoon.Reviews of the hotel is not bad, though, especially when I'm bringing my kids along. But I wouldn't think $130 is the lowest possible price.

castaways01 Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 I just wanted to chime in here and say that I stayed at Red Rock a few years ago while hiking the park. It is an awesome hotel - first class and very clean. Your kids will probably enjoy it. Movie theatres, bowling alley, kids gaming area and great swimming pool. Not too far from the strip. There is a hefty $25 resort fee - probably the only real negative about the hotel. I think they are running buses to the strip and airport for guests.
dchobo Posted July 31, 2011 Author Report Posted July 31, 2011 Thanks castaways01 for your feedback - yes, I think we may actually end up liking the resort and won't regret "rebidding" on the Summerlin zone. I did try to call/email the following few days to cancel or ask for a Priceline credit, but they explained that the fine print says they can substitute with a resort of equal or higher star rating. So far, all the searches I have done on the web do indicate that Red Rock is a 4-star or 5-star level hotel.Anyways, I will try to post an update once we have completed the stay.
ENYC2010 Posted September 7, 2011 Report Posted September 7, 2011 Ugh, this same thing happened to me! I was trying to bid on 4-5 star in the North Strip zone and for my final re-bid at $115, I selected Summerlin zone as a re-bid. I was very shocked that I won a hotel in a 3.5 level zone when I had selected 4-5 stars. At first I thought it was a priceline error. I had no idea about the resort upgrade option. It's so far out from the strip, I think I'm going to just have to take the loss and try for another hotel. I tried calling priceline and of course they wouldn't budge. They did offer me a $10/night credit for up to 5 nights. I'm not sure I'll ever use priceline again though.I'm curious though about how the stay turned out and if the shuttle is very convenient to get to the strip. dchobo, please update if you can.

dchobo Posted September 23, 2011 Author Report Posted September 23, 2011 Hi ENYC2010,Sorry to hear you made the same mistake as I did for the Summerlin re-bid.We (4 adults + 2 kids) stayed at the Red Rock Casino over the labor day weekend. Here are some of the pluses and minuses:+ Generally very nice hotel and rooms. I think it's only 3 years old, so rooms look new+ Buffet there is great, esp. when you have 6 mouths to feed. Get the "boarding pass" rewards membership card (free) to get the discounted rate. I think it was $5 for breakfast, $13 for lunch, $18 for dinner. Our kids loved the dessert selection.+ Nice pool with lots of seating. Kids love the shallow area. There's a "sand bar" you can order drinks, snacks etc.+ There's movie theatre, bowling alley, arcade game room, but we did not really get to use them. The kids being toddlers, just love running around the hotel corridors+ food court + starbucks give you cheaper food options / more options for kids+ about 15 min drive to the main LV strip. We rented a minivan and drove and park (free) in one of the strip hotels. Did not have a chance to use their shuttle. Car rental is cheap in LV, so check our Priceline and Hotwire prices. I think our minivan was only $40+tax a day.- the casino layout is just like most casinos: main casino in the center of the floor with restaurants + food court all around. Nothing much to write home about. Map: http://www.redrocklasvegas.com/downloads/rr-property-map.pdf- the elevator is off to one side of the rooms. We checked in late and got rooms far off to the sides. Kids love running in the hallways though.- View is OK- nothing really outside the casino (compared to the strip, where you can take a walk outside)- feeling of staying at a "local mall" rather than in the LV strip. They even advertised "We love locals".- $27.99 resort fee per day per room. I don't even know if this is legal. I tried to "argue" my way out of this (after all, we are not going to use the internet etc...) but no go. Note, to be fair, other hotels on the strip charge varying amount of resort fees too. But I think this is the highest. All in all, it was ok stay. I would still have preferred the strip. With a rental car, though, we get to visit the strip, walk around, and check out the Bellagio fountain show and Fremont street lights, so it's altogether not too bad at all. Depending on who's traveling with you and what the occasion is, Red Rock might be OK for you. I wouldn't recommend it if you are looking for a "romantic weekend" where you need superb view of the strip. But if you are going with some friends or family with kids for a leisure time, it's not all too bad.Hope that helps!
