mdh715 Posted July 28, 2011 Report Posted July 28, 2011 I went through Priceline, looking for a 2-1/2 star or better for a one-night stay in the San Marcos/New Braunfels area.I began my bidding at $55, added New Braunfels, and ended up getting the Country Inn & Suites by Carlson for $64.00. After my bid was accepted and finalized, I called the hotel to put in my bedding request (2 Queen beds). We needed the second bed for my two small grandsons. The hotel was nice and clean, and had a great indoor pool. The full breakfast was an added plus! But, now for the negatives! Upon checking in, I was informed that they would have to charge me an ADDITIONAL $20.00 because of my bedding request. I was not told this when I called to confirm initially. The girl at the front desk would not even listen to me--she just didn't care! She said I would have to take up my complaint with Priceline (acting like it was Priceline's fault). So, it wasn't a great deal after all. With room, taxes and surcharges, PLUS the extra $20.00 fee, it ended up costing me $106.54, which is NOT a deal!!! I doubt I will ever stay there again.
thereuare Posted July 28, 2011 Report Posted July 28, 2011 Thank you for sharing your win with the board.Note that all that is guaranteed with PRICELINE reservations is a room which can accommodate double occupancy. Even thru their own website, this hotel charges more for rooms with two queen beds vs. one king, so it would seem natural (and fair) that there be an additional charge for your 'upgrade' to a room with two queens (although the hotel should have told you this on the phone when you called to make your bedding request). In the future you can use HOTWIRE which allows you to search for up to quad occupancy. You can select 2adults/2children and while it will cost you a little more than PRICELINE, you'll know your total costs upfront. Can you please confirm that this Country Inn and Suites is the one at 1560 I-35 South in San Marcos, and also add a reply to this thread with the date(s) of your stay so we can enable this purchase to appear in the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins.Thank you for sharing your win with the board. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
