wendyb Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 It's been a while since I've used this site and I was wondering if anything has changed. I know I asked a similar question a few years ago, but it doesn't hurt to ask again. I'm wanting to stay in downtown St. Louis @ a 4*, Sat. 7-30 and Sun. 7-31. Some of the 4*'s are actually downtown (within walking distance of arch, stadium, etc) where others are a little too far out to walk everywhere.Would it be better to try my bid for one night only. (in the event that I get a property that is not conveniently located downtown and could retry for Sun) I know Priceline used to allow you to add another night after your bid was accepted. Is this still the case? However, would it be more likely to get a win asking for 2 nights to begin with? ( especially one being a Sun. night) Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
AaronJB Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 There's no way to guarantee a particular property when bidding on PRICELINE - you may bid for one night and get a hotel you're not pleased with and then try again the next night and get the same hotel or another hotel whose location within the zone isn't optimal, and then you would have to change hotels over a two night stay. HOTWIRE would be a potentially better option, as you could make an educated guess as to which hotels were showing. Are you seeing any listings of interest on HOTWIRE?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
wendyb Posted July 27, 2011 Author Report Posted July 27, 2011 Thank you for your input. I just feel that the prices are better through Priceline. I may be wrong so I am going to check out Hotwire. I started bidding @ $46 and re-bid several times up to $61 with none accepted. Big weekend in STL and Sat. night rates are high. Thanks again! I will post whatever I end up bidding/winning and will of course go through the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on this site to bid.
AaronJB Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 Rates are usually at least mildly-to-moderately better on PRICELINE, but HOTWIRE offers information, which could allow one to make an educated guess as to which hotels are showing if a particular location and/or hotel is of interest, but if any hotel within the zone is acceptable at the desired star rating, then PRICELINE is a better option.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
