Priceline Hotel: 5* Las Vegas (Strip North) Palazzo

Literally stumbled across this site while looking for hotel deals on the strip...and let me tell you how happy I am to have found this forum haha.

With that said, I had a couple of questions (within the context of 5* hotels):

Do the hotels vary at the time of the bid or does the starting bid affect which hotels you get? or is it a combination of both? Could I wait another month to get a different hotel with a lower bid for a 5*? I ask because from the most recent posts, I've noticed a trend of successful bids at the Palazzo though there was one successful bid at the Wynn, but at a higher start bid/finishing price.

From what I've gathered from the hotel list, the following 5* hotels in the North Strip are:

Palazzo

Venetian

Wynn

I know it's hard to be picky given the significant savings, but I was curious if anyone was aware of a way to manipulate bids so score a stay at the Wynn. Since my travel dates are a ways off, would it be advisable to wait? I have no finite budget set in mind, but was thinking around $100/night if that sounds reasonable enough.

Please advise. Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

There is no way to ensure/increase the odds of a particular property when using PRICELINE. It requires one to be willing to accept any property in the zone they are making a bid for at that star rating (if you are bidding 5* North Strip, you have to be willing to accept any 5* in that zone, for example.) The focus is trying to get the lowest price accepted, and if you also manage to get the hotel you are looking for, that's a bonus, but there is no way to increase the odds - if you try to bid more, you could overbid for the property you were going to get for less anyways. Inventory may change all the time, but with PRICELINE's nature, there would be no way to know. With HOTWIRE, you can see a change in inventory. Additionally, if the time period you're looking for is busy, rates could also go up closer to your stay.

In terms of bids, it's really a case-by-case basis, so it would depend on your exact dates.

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

For your very first step, always a good idea to check those hotel rates right on their web sites. There are occasional incidents where somebody bids and wins, and then learns they could have done better directly through the hotel. There are links to some of the hotels in the Las Vegas Checker (above on this page), and links to more under the Support/Travel tab (just above here).

With the above information in hand, you will have established your bidding ceiling also.

I've been bidding (unsuccessfully) in increments of 2 from 95-115 for a 5* Strip North Hotel. My dates are from 10/23-10/26, which is Sunday-Wednesday. The biggest conference in town from what I could find that coincided with my dates was only 6000 strong, which i doubt would have much bearing on rates. With that said, is my ceiling too low? Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

It's still early, but 5* availability in the Strip North zone has decreased significantly in the last few months, and wins in this zone have been far and few between.

Although there is no major convention in town during these dates, rates are not at their absolute rock-bottom, and it may take $140-$165 to be successful in this zone for these dates (if availability at all, given my comments above regarding availability drying up at the 5* level in this zone)

What is your maximum bid for a 5* hotel in the Strip North zone? You could likely win a 5* in the Strip South zone for under $100/nite... is there a point where this zone becomes acceptable?

Yeah, that's what I'm struggling with right now. My concern is that if I continue to bid on Strip North, Strip South rates may increase. In my mind, it's not worth spending $150/night when I can get a 5* in Strip South for less than $100/night. At what point should I abort and focus my efforts on Strip South?

Thanks for the continued support and assistance- it's much appreciated!

Nobody but you can say... it depends upon how much you want a hotel in the North Strip vs. how it will effect your plans if you stay in the South Strip zone vs. your budget.

While i typically like the Strip North zone better (although on my last trip it was becoming a bit 'tired' for me) i wouldn't pay $50/nite more for a 5* hotel in the North Strip vs. a 5* in the South Strip.

I booked on Aria's website for 119.20/night for insurance as you can cancel 48hrs before- they have a 20% off special + $75 dollar resort credit FYI.

Still am hoping for a strip north 5*, but now I have a baseline to work off of. Will report any win using the PRICELINE link above of course.
