BobB Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 What should be my target price for this hotel (Sheraton, Brooklyn) for October 27-29 ? I am at $130 with Priceline right now. Does anyone think I am anywhere close ?

BobB Posted July 27, 2011 Author Report Posted July 27, 2011 Ok..that's done, now what? Now at $136 for the Sheraton Brooklyn.Any help out there ??? Started at $120 about 4 days ago.
thereuare Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 A reminder that you're not bidding on a specific property, but rather a 4* hotel in the zone. While there may be only one 4* hotel reported to the board in this zone, there could be others. My guess is that you'll need to be somewhere around the $180-$200 area to be successful for a 4* in this area for these dates. How high are you willing to bid for a 4* hotel in this area for this stay, before you consider other areas or lowering your star rating? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. BobB Posted July 28, 2011 Author Report Posted July 28, 2011 We are leaving out from Red Hook on a cruise which makes Brooklyn a perfect choice. Not opposed to a 3.5 star or 4 star in the city though, Brooklyn is just "better" for us. Any thoughts on this ?? I also noticed that the acknowledge 4 star in Brooklyn (Sheraton) on HOTWIRE is running $235. Am I fooling myself to think it will be cheaper on by bidding for it on PRICELINE? Are the 2 sites relatively competitive?
thereuare Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 I also noticed that the acknowledge 4 star in Brooklyn (Sheraton) on HOTWIRE is running $235. Am I fooling myself to think it will be cheaper on by bidding for it on PRICELINE?PRICELINE is usually a little cheaper then HOTWIRE, but not as much as the gap between what you're current bidding and the HOTWIRE rate. What is your maximum bid for this stay? As per my guestimage above:My guess is that you'll need to be somewhere around the $180-$200 area to be successful for a 4* in this area for these dates. What is your maximum bid for this stay?We are leaving out from Red Hook on a cruise which makes Brooklyn a perfect choice. Not opposed to a 3.5 star or 4 star in the city though, Brooklyn is just "better" for us. Any thoughts on this ??Assuming you'll have 1 1/2 - 2 days to explore Manhattan, i would sooner stay in the city. Given your cruise is leaving from Red Hook Brooklyn makes sense if you can save money by staying there... but if it's going to cost close to the same amount as a Manhattan hotel, i'd opt for the convenience of staying in Manhattan.Let us know your thoughts and maximum bid for this stay and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. BobB Posted July 29, 2011 Author Report Posted July 29, 2011 Well... in a perfect world I would say no more than about $150, but that is a fantasy world in NYC. I have some rooms on a no penalty c/c guarantee around the city all the way up to $289 just to not get shut out. I would like to stay at about $400 incl tax for 2 nights, but I may be dreaming there also. I am hoping that at some point there may be some fall rates that places start to put out there, but in NYC that may still be high. I have no problem being in the city, but if the cost is going to be the same as Brooklyn, I might as well stay close to the port and just use the subway system for a day and a half to get around. I would have to use it anyway even if we stayed in the city. I guess if I had to I can go to $175. What would be a decent 3.5 star or 3 star in the city at about that price ???
thereuare Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 ...if the cost is going to be the same as Brooklyn, I might as well stay close to the port and just use the subway system for a day and a half to get around. My thinking is that if the cost is the same, better to take the premium location and convenience of Manhattan, and take time off your commute each day you head to the city. At the same price, Manhattan would certainly be the better value.I guess if I had to I can go to $175. What would be a decent 3.5 star or 3 star in the city at about that price ???You would have to bid on PRICELINE to have a chance at a 3* or 3.5* in Manhattan, so i couldn't say which hotel you would likely received. If you still think Brooklyn works best for your plans HOTWIRE now has a 4* hotel in this zone for $185/nite (your price may differ by a few dollars)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and/or how it goes or how we can be of further help. BobB Posted August 2, 2011 Author Report Posted August 2, 2011 I am at $151 for PRICELINE with no luck yet, and I see HOTWIRE is at $180 for the Sheraton Brooklyn. Should I wait to see if Hotwire is going to drop, or should I raise my bid on Priceline to ?????? (what $) Is there a happy medium ???
thereuare Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 I am at $151 for PRICELINE with no luck yet, and I see HOTWIRE is at $180 for the Sheraton Brooklyn. Please use the requested PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board each time you access the respective sites.Note that if the current HOTWIRE offer is the Sheraton it would be a new amenity combination for this property. There is no way to know if rates will come down if you wait... or continue even higher. It comes down to 'bird in hand worth two in flight' and how good of a deal you feel this property is for these dates. Based upon your own temperament, how would you feel if you waited and the 4* offering in Brooklyn went up to $250 (or disappeared entirely)... how would you feel if you purhcased now and then saw lower prices ahead? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. BobB Posted August 9, 2011 Author Report Posted August 9, 2011 I am now at $155 for Brooklyn 4* I am not giving up on a Brooklyn property. I still have 60 plus days before I need the room. Should I keep trying or wait it out. What would the normal trend be for this hotel at this time of year ? I see hotwire has what I need at $178. Ideas???

thereuare Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 It comes down to how much you need to save to lock the rate in now... or risk that the HOTWIRE rate and/or hotel direct rate (and the rate needed to win on PRICELINE) increase. There's no definitive answer for this as nobody can say if rates will come down, or move even higher, between now and your trip... it all depends upon supply/demand and how actual reservations/cancellations come in relative to exptected reservations/cancellations.If you do choose to wait i would book a fully refundable back-up reservation to protect yourself from rates rising. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of continued help along the way.
