kbears Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 Hotwire had offers of $82 for what I determined to be the DeSoto and $97 for what I determined to be the Planters Inn (reports of haunted rooms scared wife off - complimentary breakfast is rare for this level hotel though and had 95% positive Hotwire reviews).Looking at winning bids on Priceline forum, I decided to go that route...Started first bid 4* Historic Savannah and Riverfront Zone - $60 rejected.Added Savannah Airport Zone - $67 rejected.Added Savannah Gateway Zone - $75 rejected.Added Savannah Midtown Zone - $85 rejected.Added Savannah North Zone - $96 rejected.Added Savannah West Garden City - $101 rejected.Expected the Hyatt, would have been happy with AVIA for the $96 I saw others get it for... instead nothing.Little confused because no events I saw that should up prices and through their websites, space at both AVIA and the Hyatt. Ideas? Wasn't excited about the DeSoto's location so I wanted to stay away from 3.5* on Priceline.
kbears Posted July 25, 2011 Author Report Posted July 25, 2011 Just read thereuare's Priceline Bid Early or Late post... Other things to consider:- as hotels book more rooms, they're more likely to pull their Priceline offers than offer deeper discounts. For example, i received a hotel via Priceline in NJ that eventually was sold-out for my dates, if i had waited until closer to check-in, there is no way i would have received a room there.Should i be concerned that a 4* for under $100 isn't going to happen since we're planning on such a short notice or wait 24 hours and give it another go?I'm going to look into some 3*'s in the area I want (hopefully sub-$100) and identify a cancellable back-up as per recommendations.
AaronJB Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 Good morning. :)Please provide the date/s of travel and we would be happy to take a look and offer suggestions. If you are looking at the very short-term (within the next week or so), then rates will likely not change much between now and your stay.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Sam Morgan Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 Hi,I just tried for 4* for 7/29 and got rejected for $70 and $75. I'm willing to wait till the last day. Any suggestions. Thanks in advance,SM

kbears Posted July 26, 2011 Author Report Posted July 26, 2011 Sorry - forgot I had deleted the dates from an earlier part of my post - we're looking for next week - 8/2 through 8/4.
thereuare Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 I think another $5-$10 (up to $111) may be the difference between success and failture... with Expedia having the Avia for $159/nite, how high are you willing to bid for a 4* for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. kbears Posted July 26, 2011 Author Report Posted July 26, 2011 I had hoped to get one for under $100... I tried the exact same bid pattern last night (I know... silly) and still no success. Given that I'm seeing 3* hotels for mostly $100+ on their own websites, I'm going to research some 3* hotels and what I might get with PRICELINE at that level. If I give the 4* another shot tonight and follow a rebid pattern up to $125 or so and it doesn't work, can I then start a new bid cycle looking for a 3* and adding rebid zones or would that require a 24 hour wait?
kbears Posted July 26, 2011 Author Report Posted July 26, 2011 Talked it over with the wife again and saw that the Four Points was a commonly won 3* in the past 12 months and decided to bid for 3* and hope for that....Used the PRICELINE link and bid $55 for historic district. Got the "increase $15 message"...added a rebid zone and tried $60. Denied. Added another rebid zone and tried $65. Won... but not what I was expecting... got the Hilton DeSoto. We avoided bidding in the 3.5* category because we weren't excited about the reviews we had read for that hotel, but I knew that bidding 3* included hotels in higher categories... thought it was worth the risk. Regardless, we're looking forward to our stay and are sure it will be a great experience. Thanks for the advice and suggestions.
thereuare Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 Sorry to see you received an unwanted upgrade, but glad you're happy with the price, and for the rate you're paying, hopefully you'll find it to be a good value and better then some of the other reviews you've seen.Thank you for sharing your win and using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay.
