Cimbom Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 I have a budget of $2000 USD in total for the remainder of our stay in New York. We would like to stay in a 4* hotel if possible, if not, 3.5* for a bit less. We're happy to stay in any zone which is close to the subway and attractions (preferably not financial district). Please recommend me a Priceline strategy. In my last win, they asked if I wanted to extend my stay, is this common with all winning bids? Thanks :)
thereuare Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 We're happy to stay in any zone which is close to the subway and attractions (preferably not financial district). So should we not include the Financial District in a bidding strategy? Also, look at the Ink48 hotel (go to MAPSandHOTELS.com and enter '653 11th Avenue, NYC' as the address)... would this be acceptable? Also, please confirm your maximum bid is ~$235/nite?Let us know the above and we'll be able to suggest a bidding strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Cimbom Posted July 25, 2011 Author Report Posted July 25, 2011 I'd preferably like to stay under $240 a night. Ink48 seems like it's in a decent location but I'd probably leave that zone as a last preference if I can. When bidding on Priceline, do you always get asked if you want to extend your stay at the same rate? If you do, then I guess it'd be easier to bid for 3 or 4 nights initially.Let me know what you think.
thereuare Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 You're almost always asked for most hotels these dates, but even when asked, you're not guaranteed acceptance. When you try to extend the stay PRICELINE will either respond by:1) you were successful extending your stay2) rooms are available but not at the same rate, you're then given the option to accept/reject the higher rate3) no rooms available at any priceAlso, note that you can only try to extend your stay for up to the same number of nites as your original bid... so you can purchase 2 or 3 nites and then try to extend 4 or 5 nites. Please confirm the 4* zones you're willing to accept: CPS, Chelsea, ESB, MTE, MTW, TS and UWS... all of these are acceptable? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. THINICE Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 It's a little early for this busy time of the year but I'm ready to start fishing.I would appreciate bidding assistance for a 4* in the following zones, no preference:Times SquareCentral Park SouthMidtown EastMidtown WestHell's KitchenMSG-Convention CenterChelseaEmpire State$160 max per nightThanks!!!!!!
Cimbom Posted July 27, 2011 Author Report Posted July 27, 2011 I've tried to bid on Priceline for the first week of October upto $250/night and haven't got a 4* so I'm thinking it's unlikely you will. Even 3.5* would be a struggle for $160.
