nuxsmaniac Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 Looking for a place closed to Niagra fall to stay in the NY side. Thinking of the usual 3.5 star buffalo marriot but doesn't seemed to have much success based on priceline calendar. Any suggestion on what price should I start my bidding at? Hoping for best star level with a budget of $75 maxAlso should I avoid downtown buffalo? I was reading some review and it said not much is happening after dark and most have a hefty valet parking fee. Any suggestion? Thanks
thereuare Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 I'm assuming you're looking to bid the Amherst zone, if so...At the 3.5* level you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3.5* Amherst...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $63, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $68, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $73, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. nuxsmaniac Posted July 22, 2011 Author Report Posted July 22, 2011 Sorry which rebid zone does not have 3.5 stars that is safe to use? Just don't want to end up with a suprise stay in the middle of no where... can you redirect me on where to check on this info? thanks
nuxsmaniac Posted July 22, 2011 Author Report Posted July 22, 2011 tried tonite starting really low @ $52 and increase by $2 increment. No luck up to $62 and don't want to try the last one on West Seneca as there is no details on type of hotel star level available... will try again tomorrow. Just want to know when I should give up at as it will be too high and wait closer to the travel date or lower the star level (which I would preferred not to!)3.5 stars$52 Rejected Buffalo - Amherst Details Best deal $54 Rejected Buffalo Airport (BUF) Details Best deal $56 Rejected Downtown Buffalo Details Best deal $58 Rejected East Niagara Falls, NY Details Best deal $60 Rejected Grand Island Details Best deal $62 Rejected Niagara Falls, NY Details Best deal greyed out- n/a South Buffalo - Hamburg Details Best deal West Seneca - Lackawanna Details
thereuare Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 ...don't want to try the last one on West Seneca as there is no details on type of hotel star level available...It sounds like you're using the hotel lists on the board to determine your re-bid zones? If so, DO NOT do so (see the comments at the top of the Priceline Hotel List) as you will eventually end up in a zone you didn't intend. Please see Priceline Re-Bidding Explained for the correct method to determine your re-bid zone. After reading this link let us know if you have any questions, or if you're confused, just post back and we'll break it down further for you. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. nuxsmaniac Posted July 23, 2011 Author Report Posted July 23, 2011 Yes I did use the hotel list for star level. I understood now how it works so the last zone is safe to use too since the highest rate hotel is only 3 stars while I bit 3.5stars.Tried again tonite starting at $64,66, 68,70, 72,74 and ended with $76. no luck...should I wait a week to bit more. Looks like the occupancy is pretty high there...
thereuare Posted July 23, 2011 Report Posted July 23, 2011 Glad you now know how to determine your re-bid zones... remember to always double check your re-bid zones just before bidding to make sure nothing has changed since you last checked. You can wait and see if rates come down between now and your stay, but based upon current rates i think you're probably looking at $85-$95 to be successful for these dates... most recent 3.5* wins have been $95-$100.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Keep us updated on your progress and let us know if we can be of further help along the way. nuxsmaniac Posted July 23, 2011 Author Report Posted July 23, 2011 thanks...now rethinking about where to stay. For that kind of price range can I get a room closer to Niagara Falls on either the US or Canada side? It is not an absolute that I must stay in Buffalo. I can just drive there to check out some historic building if we feel like it. I would preferred the US side since we are booking directly at Embassy Suite for Aug 21 already for the firework. Any suggestion or if it looks like I can get more value on the Canadian side of the fall based on the rebid zones and all the 4 stars on the fallsview area? Thanks.

nuxsmaniac Posted July 24, 2011 Author Report Posted July 24, 2011 Maximum under $95 per nite for the best value - preferably 4* but anything above 3* is okay...
thereuare Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 You can try the Niagara Fall zone(s) if you'd like (it can't hurt) but my guess is that Amherst is likely going to be your best bang for your buck at the moment, although you'll have to increase your bidding to the previously mentioned range of $85-$95.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. nuxsmaniac Posted July 26, 2011 Author Report Posted July 26, 2011 based on a recent post for the buffalo niagara area.... is $75 a fair price or should I start off with lower? please comment...thanks.Sheraton At The Falls Hotel300 Third StreetNiagara Falls, New York 14303Upgraded from 2,5* Hotel.$75 + tax also any strategy will be appreciated. Wanted to stay at 3 stars and above for niagara fall ny or amherst area.... thanks - budget $85 and under for 2 nites.
thereuare Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 I don't think $75 will be enough, given your $85 limit, and one re-bid zone, i'd bid:Select 3* Niagara Falls NY...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85HOWEVER, if a 3* in Amherst is equally acceptable, i'd bid as follows:Select 3* Amherst...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* Niagara Falls NY...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* Amherst and Niagara Falls NY...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85Any questions feel free to ask.PLEASE use the requested PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your bidding.Good luck and let us know how it goes. nuxsmaniac Posted July 28, 2011 Author Report Posted July 28, 2011 Tried 2 nites in a row 3 * niagara falls NY @ $70, then add west seneca as rebid zone and @ $75; tonite tried the same with $76 first bid and $79 second bid no luck still... you think I would have better luck on the Cdn side since I have seen recent win at $85 fo sheraton on the fall? ...emmm
thereuare Posted July 28, 2011 Report Posted July 28, 2011 Realize that rates are date specific, so unless the $85 win was for your specific dates, it doesn't necessarily apply to your dates. There are more hotels on the Canadian side, which means more competition and often better rates then on the NY side, but even with this noted, not sure if $85 will be enough at this point in time. Like most of your other bids, i think you may be stopping $10-$20 short of success. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. nuxsmaniac Posted July 31, 2011 Author Report Posted July 31, 2011 Booking.com backup plans: 4 points Sherton NY side $120 per nite plus tax 2 nite for $240 plus 13% tax. Will update if I managed to get anything cheaper thru bidding. Thanks again for all your help. Can be cancelled till Aug 19 no charge.I went thru link here via PRICELINE then booking.com - hopefully you guys get credit - thanks again for help.Any suggestion on perhaps 3* or perhaps 2.5* on the NY side closer to the fall that I may be able to book thru PRICELINE or HOTWIRE Aug 22 to 24 stay. Thanks.
thereuare Posted August 1, 2011 Report Posted August 1, 2011 Not cheaper, nor on the NY side, but HOTWIRE has what appears to be the Sterling Inn and Spa for $137/nite for your dates... the #1 rated hotel in Niagara Falls on Tripadvisor, so probably a better experience then the Four Points for not much more money. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. nuxsmaniac Posted December 5, 2011 Author Report Posted December 5, 2011 ended by paying $99 plus tax for a travel zoo deal for 2 nites with sheraton at the fall in buffalo side. not the cheapest but pretty good walking distant to the US STATE PARK so worth the premium. thanks
