I left earlier posts describing more of the details of my process, but the bottom line is that I got the Grand Hyatt in Kauai for:

$185 on Thursday, August 18, 2011

$185 on Friday, August 19, 2011

$150 on Saturday, August 20, 2011

By the way, a bid of $185 at this resort comes to $219.94 with taxes and fees. They also charge a $25 resort fee per day, bringing the total to $244.94. I was expecting there to also be an additional parking fee, but I called the resort and was pleased to learn that it is already included in the mandatory resort fee. If they are sneaking like some of the other resorts I know in Las Vegas, they will also charge 13.4% tax on the resort fee, thus making the resort fee $28.35. Thus, my bid price of $185 is going to cost me $248.29. The grand total price is about 34% higher than the bid price. I am not complaining about these charges, but merely pointing out to newbies that the actual amount you pay is often considerably higher than just the bid price.

At first I tried all 3 nights together, but did get any bids accepted. Then I followed the advice of our esteemed moderator and broke up the nights. I was able to win a hotel at $150 for the Saturday night when I bid only on that night. Next I bid on Friday, incrementally going higher with my bids, until it was finally accepted at $185. Others on this board got much better rates for the Grand Hyatt such as $135 - $140 for different days, but it really depends upon the demand for the hotel and what is going on there during those days. My weekend must be a more popular time for travellers.

As an interesting note, over a week ago, when I had won the bid for Friday at $185, I got a message from Priceline asking if I wanted to extend my stay in either direction for the same rate of $185. I replied that I did also want 8/18/11 for $185, and then Priceline surprisingly rejected it!

Here I am all these days later, still trying. Today (7/20/11), I bid $175 for Thursday 8/18/11 and it was rejected. I added "Princeville" to my search of resorts since there are no resorts in Priceville. Thus, I got the opportunity to make a second bid right away. When the $175 bid was rejected, Priceline sent me a message suggesting that I raise my bid by $35 to $210. I did not do this, but instead bid $185 and had it accepted!!!

Even though I had bid $185 for the same night over a week ago, it was rejected then but accepted today. So I guess the available prices are in a constant state of flux.

We are a family of four and I know that there is no guarantee of getting two queens instead of one king. I am going to give the hotel a call in advance and hopefully they can make a note of it and accomodate us with two queens. But I realize that there is no guarantee of that. We are rolling the dice a bit. Nonetheless, I know we are going to be very happy at this resort no matter what the bed situation is. I will update this message board after my trip and let everyone know what happened (especially if I learn any tips on how to get a room for 4 instead of for 2).

Thanks for all the help on this board. I could not have done it without BetterBidding. My family and I THANK YOU, as we look forward to an amazing vacation at this World Class Resort!

Thanks again!!!

Congrats on your success. :)

Very good result for this Hyatt property!

Regular rate users also have to pay the $25 fee, as well. In terms of two beds, you can call Hyatt, or another suggestion would be writing [email protected], which is Hyatt's PRICELINE request email. They may be able to take the "request", which isn't guaranteed, but would be noted on your reservation.

A follow-up review/note on if you were able to get two beds is also greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)

Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE link.

Enjoy your stay.
