Mogat Posted July 19, 2011 Report Posted July 19, 2011 I have tried without success to book a 4*/3.5* room in Newport-Huntington Beach for 811-8/16. My bidding history is Saturday4* - $654*/3.5* - $70Sunday4* - $754*/3.5* - $80Monday4* - $854*/3.5* - $90I am using a $4 per night Entertainment Book credit, so the amount I bid is $4 less than the amounts listed above, but with the credit the total equals the bids above. For example, my last bid was $86 + $4 per night credit for a total of $90. Does this make a difference?
Mogat Posted July 19, 2011 Author Report Posted July 19, 2011 Still no successTuesday4* - $954*/3.5* - $100
thereuare Posted July 20, 2011 Report Posted July 20, 2011 Are you familiar with and using your re-bid zones? (see Priceline Re-Bidding Explained) What is your maximum bid for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. (if you need to use a special URL for the rebate, please click our HOTWIRE link first, allow the page to load, then type the designated URL into your browser)THANKS! Mogat Posted July 20, 2011 Author Report Posted July 20, 2011 I am familiar with rebid zones, but it seemed all the zones had either a 3.5* or 4* hotel. Although I have to admit I looked quickly. Right now our maximum bid for a 3.5* or 4* is $105. If that is rejected I will start over with 3* and a bid of $50.
thereuare Posted July 20, 2011 Report Posted July 20, 2011 You do have re-bid zones available at both the 3.5* and 4* levels. Please check your re-bid zones and confirm them with the board, then let us know if you're willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel OR if your goal is the least expensive 3.5* or better for this stay, we'll then suggest a better and more systematic bidding strategy then what you're doing above. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Mogat Posted July 20, 2011 Author Report Posted July 20, 2011 My goal is to try and find a 3.5*/4* hotel for $105 or maybe $110 or less.
thereuare Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 Please check your re-bid zones and confirm them with the board...Have you been able to determine your re-bid zones at both the 4* and 3.5* levels... are you comfortable you have them correctly identified or do you want to confirm them with the board?...then let us know if you're willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel OR if your goal is the least expensive 3.5* or better for this stayPlease let us know the above... we'll then be able to provide a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Mogat Posted July 21, 2011 Author Report Posted July 21, 2011 Following is what I am believe are the rebid zones for a 4*Anaheim HillsBuena PointDana PointDisneyland-AnaheimFullerton-BreaIrving SprectrumLagunaSeal BeachThe rebid zones for a 3.5* areAnaheim HillsLaguanaSeal BeachPlease let me know if you think any of this is incorrect.Yesterday I bid $105 for both a 3.5* and 4*, which is the highest I wanted to bid, and was rejected. Is there any strategy I should try for rebidding on those classes of hotels?
thereuare Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 Based upon current prices i think you may need to go to $120-$135 to be successful for these dates. If you're sticking with a $105 maximum bid, you can try as follows for a 4*, using your EIGHT re-bid zones:Select 4* Newport Beach-Huntington Beach...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $93, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $98, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $103, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105If that is rejected and you then want to try for a 3.5* property, close the browser above and use this link to re-access PRICELINE:Select 3.5* Newport Beach-Huntington Beach...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105Any questions feel free to ask. Mogat Posted July 22, 2011 Author Report Posted July 22, 2011 Thanks for the strategy. That was very helpful. Please note I did use the link to re-access PRICELINE. As expected all the bids were rejected.I think I am now going to focus on 3* hotels. Since there are no 3* rebid options are there any options to avoid the 24 hour waiting period? Also, what would you recommend as a starting bid?
thereuare Posted July 23, 2011 Report Posted July 23, 2011 With no re-bid zones you get one bid every 24 hours. Are you sticking with a maximum bid for $105 at the 3* level? Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links for your bidding. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Mogat Posted July 23, 2011 Author Report Posted July 23, 2011 I can book directly with the Raddison, a 3* hotel, for $104 a night so I am thinking my maximum bid will be $100 or less.
thereuare Posted July 23, 2011 Report Posted July 23, 2011 With no re-bid zones, i would bid $65, if that is rejected try $70 and then $75 then $80 over the next 3 days.Report back with your results and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. Mogat Posted July 25, 2011 Author Report Posted July 25, 2011 We decided to go up to $120 for a 4* and continued the bidding using the Betterbidding PRICELINE linkI rebid $105 with just Newport and was rejectedI bid $108 with Newport and Anaheim, and was rejectedI bid $110 with Newport, Anaheim, and Buena Park and was accepted at the Fairmont Newport Beach
thereuare Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 Congratulations on your success!Glad to see you decided to up your bid a little more as i think $120 for a 4* is a better value then a 3.5* or 3* for a little less. While a little more then you originally set out for, hope you're pleased with the restuls and looking forward to your trip.Thank you for sharing your win and using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay. Mogat Posted July 25, 2011 Author Report Posted July 25, 2011 Please note while we were willing to bid up $120, this was not necessary since a $110 bid was accepted.
thereuare Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 Thanks for the clarification... we've edited the topic title to reflect the correct winning bid price.Enjoy your stay. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
