Pierre Havrenne Posted July 19, 2011 Report Posted July 19, 2011 Hi there,Lots of useful information at the site for sure.I'm trying to find a room (3-4*) to stay in from Oct 22-25, preferably at SoHo or Midtown, but willing to accept other areas in Manhattan.Any tips on how should I bid or what target price should I be looking into? I was thinking in something about 140-160 for a 3* or 150-180 for a 4*, is that possible? What about timing, based on people's experience, should I wait until the last minute to book it or should I start looking for it now? Should I leave it for the last minute what's the worst price I can get for a 3* hotel? Thanks a lot.Pierre
thereuare Posted July 19, 2011 Report Posted July 19, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! As far as when to bid, there is no clear-cut answer, but for a discussion see the related 'Bid Early or Close to Check-in' link in our PRICELINE FAQ.Regarding your October stay, this is an expensive time in NYC and based upon current prices i think your budget is likely too low... the top end of your budget is probably at the bottom end of the reasonably expected range for these dates. If you look at the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins for last year around this time, you'll see a few wins near your budget, but most somewhat higher... and last year the NYC hotel market was much weaker then we're currently seeing.Once you're ready to bid let us if you want to first try for a 4* hotel up to your limit before trying for a 3.5* OR if your goal is the least expensive 3.5*, which zones (by PRICELINE name) you're willing to accept, and your maximum bid at each star level (if revised from above) and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.Any additional questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
