Priceline Hotel: How far in advance should I place my bids?

We all know why we would need a hotel for August around June 2012, but right now as of today, the dates are too far out.

When the dates are available, which would be in about August, is that way to early for me to be bidding?

Whats everyone's BetterBidding take on placing hotel bid MANY months in advance. Good, bad, would that mean I would get the absolute lowest price?

Thanks!

There is no way to know whether rates will be lower closer to the dates or not - in the last year or so, that has been the case less often then it was about 3-4 years ago.

In terms of bidding for a stay in August 2012, my view would be this: check to see if there are any major festivals/conventions or other such events that may cause considerable traffic.

If not, then I'd say you should begin to look into booking this stay around the middle of the first quarter of next year. Bidding now for August 2012 would be too far out.

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Sorry, i got my dates totally mixed up. I need a hotel for the middle of June 2012, but the earliest i can bid is until August 2011.

Yes what I would be looking at attending is F1 Grand Prix USA, at the Circuit Of Americas Facility in Austin, TX.

with that said what would be a good time to bid ?

Assuming the events above are big races which attract a lot of out of town fans, i would begin bidding as early as possible, but as per the reply above... you just never know for certain. See the related 'Bid Early or Close to Check-in' link in our PRICELINE FAQ.

Whenever you decide to bid, please remember to use the requested PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your bidding, searches and travel purchases (and your current searches too, please)

Did some more checking today, and things look bleak for Formula 1 weekend in Austin. My research shows the dates should be the weekend of 15 - 17 of June 2012. The Omni, Hilton, and Intercontinental show no availability. The cheapest on the Driskill website is $499 for those dates, but LMT has Hampton Inn South Austin for $112/nite. One of the reservation specialists said they will/are going to use a central reservations type deal via austintexas.org. I doubt very seriously there are enough hotel rooms in Austin to carry the load, and will probably spill over into San Antonio. I would like to go, but the idea of June in Austin is a little off putting...humidity and all that. The last time the U.S. Grand Prix was in Dallas, the heat was unbearable for the drivers, as well as the fans.

great insight. are you local to the area? The thing about those dates is that its still tentative. I herd about the heat & humidity in Austin during that time of the year that they may move it closer to August. We wont know a final date until December 2011 if I recall when the FIA meets to confirm the dates for 2012 season.

Not local to the area...One of the F1 tour groups website has the above dates as scheduled for the race weekend. I'll see if bidding on Priceline starts next month and maybe give it a shot. May Google the Dallas race from years ago and relive the heat and humidity.
