ricardo5 Posted July 18, 2011 Report Posted July 18, 2011 I am new to Priceline, but I have read a number of your forum entries. I will be in NYC from Sept 29 through Oct 3 (4 nights). I would like to stay in Midtown East, Midtown West, or Central Park South. My preference is to pay $175 or less for a 4* hotel, a 3.5* hotel, or (perhaps) a 3* hotel. How should I proceed?
thereuare Posted July 19, 2011 Report Posted July 19, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding!I'm guessing your budget may be a bit of a stretch for a 4* hotel, but to confirm, did you want to try for a 4* first up to your limit, then if rejected try for a 3.5*? If so, i'd begin as follows:Select 4* MTE and MTW...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* CPS...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE and MTW and CPS...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175Any questions feel free to ask (or if your intention was not to start with a 4* up to your maximum bid just post back and we'll revise accordingly)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. ricardo5 Posted July 19, 2011 Author Report Posted July 19, 2011 Thanks for your advice. I attempted your strategy for 4* and 3.5* hotels up to $175, and I received no offers. I am willing to try 3* hotels. How should I proceed?
thereuare Posted July 19, 2011 Report Posted July 19, 2011 Note that at the 3* (and 3.5*) levels in MTE there are some hotels which are up to a 15 minute walk to the subway... is this acceptable? Also, at the moment i think you have a chance at a 4* for ~$200-$205... would you be interested in raising your bid a little vs. considering a 3* hotel up to $175?Lastly, while rates are high across the board for these dates, is there a reason you're only bidding these three zones? Including more zones which are acceptable gives more hotels the chance to accept your bid price, which increases your chances of landing a deal. There are quite a few other zones i would add (depending upon star level... and as per above would even possibly consider removing MTE from your less than 4* bidding) which are typically just as convenient for the average user... are there particular hotels you're trying to target/avoid?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ricardo5 Posted July 19, 2011 Author Report Posted July 19, 2011 Thanks, Thereuare. At this point I am not willing to go above $175. I am not trying to avoid any particular hotels, and I am open to other zones. What zones and strategy would you suggest.
thereuare Posted July 20, 2011 Report Posted July 20, 2011 What are your thoughts about a 15 minute walk to the subway and/or the small rooms at the Hudson Hotel... are either/both of these acceptable? At the 3.5* level (and 3*) i would also look towards the Times Square, Empire Stat Building, and Madison Square Garden zones... will these work for your needs? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know the above and we'll take it from there. ricardo5 Posted July 20, 2011 Author Report Posted July 20, 2011 Thanks, Thereuare. The 15 minute walk and the Hudson Hotel are acceptable. I would also be OK with TS, ESB, and MSG zones.
thereuare Posted July 20, 2011 Report Posted July 20, 2011 I also forgot to mention MTW, so if this zone is equally acceptable, to sum it up the next step is:A 3.5* hotel in the TS, ESB, MSG, MTE, MTW, CPS zones with a maximum bid of $175? If this is correct, i'd bid as follows:At the 3.5* level you have FOUR re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3.5* TS, ESB, MSG...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTE, MTW, CPS...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTE, ESB, MSG...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* TS, MTW, CPS...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* TS, MTW, MSG...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTE, ESB, CPS...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* TS, ESB, CPS...Bid $135, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTE, MTW, MSG...Bid $135, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* TS, ESB, CPS, MTE...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* TS, ESB, CPS, MTW...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* TS, ESB, CPS, MSG...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* TS, ESB, CPS, MTE, MTW...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* TS, ESB, CPS, MTE, MSG...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* TS, ESB, MTE, MTW, MSG...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* TS, ESB, MTE, MTW, CPS...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* TS, ESB, CPS, MTE, MTW, MSG...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. ricardo5 Posted July 24, 2011 Author Report Posted July 24, 2011 Hi Thereuare,I tried the below suggested strategy for 3.5* to $175 with no success. What strategy should I use for 3.0* for the same zones? Thanks again for your advice.
thereuare Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 At the 3* level you have ONE re-bid zone.
