angelababy Posted July 18, 2011 Report Posted July 18, 2011 Hi,I am new to this website but have found it very informative. I am trying to book a 4* hotel room in London (Mayfair-Soho) 14-18 Sep. I have tried up to USD $160 but have been turned down :). My upper limit bid is USD$180 (excluding taxes). Can I get your help on the strategy on the bidding place I should use? I checked today that the no 4 & 5 star re-bid zone is Hammersmith and Webley.Thank you for your help!
thereuare Posted July 18, 2011 Report Posted July 18, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! Is Mayfair-Soho the only zone you're willing to accept? Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? (ie- i think you can get a hotel within your budget in the Mayfair-Soho zone for the last nite of your stay... but not the first two)Let us know and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. angelababy Posted July 18, 2011 Author Report Posted July 18, 2011 Hi,Splitting to 2 nites + 2 nites at 2 hotels is acceptable. We prefer to stay in the Mayfair-Soho area if possible as it seem it has more night life, pub, cafes, restaurants etc. This is my first time to Europe actually so I don't really know what other areas are similar to Mayfair-Soho in additional. Any input would be appreciated! :)Me and my travel buddy are both female and in our late 20s. So safety would be important to us when we will return to our hotel probably late at night. Thanks in advance!
thereuare Posted July 19, 2011 Report Posted July 19, 2011 At the 4* level you have TWO re-bid zones... at the 5* level you have FIVE re-bid zones (you'll see below why i mention 5* bidding).(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)I would begin with the following:Select 4* Mayfair-Soho...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Mayfair-Soho and re-bid zone2...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $180I would try the above for 9/14-9/18, if that is rejected re-try for 9/14-9/17, if that is rejected re-try for 9/14-9/16. (NOTE: if successful for less then your full date range, i think you're going to have to stay in a different zone for the remaining nites)If all dates above are rejected, i think you have a chance at a 5* hotel for 9/16-9/18. Assuming you want to try for a 5* for the weekend dates i would bid as follows, using your FIVE re-bid zones:Select 5* Mayfair Soho...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE.Select 5* Mayfair Soho and re-bid zone5...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $175Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. angelababy Posted July 19, 2011 Author Report Posted July 19, 2011 I have successfully booked the 5 star Intercontinental London Park Lane hotel for 16-18 Sep!! Got it for USD$165 + tax, I am so excited to be staying at such a nice hotel!! :) However I still couldn't get anything bidding up to $180 with the suggested strategy for 14-16 Sep. Since Mayfair-Soho is out of the question, Can you suggest other nice and convenient area for me to bid in? Should I lower my highest bid for the other areas I will be bidding since they are not as popular as Mayfair-Soho?Thank you so much for your help!!

KS Uy Posted July 19, 2011 Report Posted July 19, 2011 I'm choosing between West Hong Kong Island and Tsim Tsa Tsui. I wanted to stay in a 5* hotel too. Any hotel recommendations?

tangey Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 For anyone reading this bid, I got the exact same hotel on the exact same dates for a dollar more, bidding 10 days later than AngelaBaby. I have posted my own priceline hotel bid separately, but thought it was useful to tie the two bids together.
ClairdeLune Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 I am a little confused by the above and I'd like to know...it looks like the perfect formula. But above you said that there are 5 rebid zones on the Mayfair 5 star and only two rebid zones on the Mayfair 4 star. So just curious why it says to bid zone 1 through 5. Is that a typo and you meant to type 5 star? Also confused about when you say bid this zone and then close browser and then come into better bidding browser and then start with the same zones. Are you saying that we go into the Priceline browser first and then use the zones there and when those don't work, come in the better bidding browser and start over? Will Priceline allow us to start over with the same zones from this site within the same time frame? The way you are writing it sounds like we can bid twice by using the Priceline browser and then coming into the Better Bidding browser and doing it all over again within the same 24 hour window. Please clarify to a novice. Thx
