tobius Posted July 16, 2011 Report Posted July 16, 2011 I am trying to find a four-star hotel in Salt Lake City for 8/15/11, and I've bid as high as $95 (much higher than any of the bids on this forum) but without success. Is there a convention in Salt Lake that week? Should I wait and see if anything becomes available or just buy a 3* now?
thereuare Posted July 17, 2011 Report Posted July 17, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! There is a Police Convention taking place during this stay. I'm not too familiar with the convention market in Salt Lake City, but this is about 6K people which looks to be pretty decent sized for the area.Which zone(s) have you bid? What is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable hotel thru conventional booking channels? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. tobius Posted July 17, 2011 Author Report Posted July 17, 2011 Thanks for your reply! I have been bidding in the Downtown and University Park zone (the only zone offering 4*) and adding other zones as I increase my bid.The best rate right now through conventional channels is $199 ($225 including tax) at the Marriott.
thereuare Posted July 18, 2011 Report Posted July 18, 2011 Given the $200 hotel direct rate, what is your maximum bid for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. tobius Posted July 18, 2011 Author Report Posted July 18, 2011 I have bid up to $95 so far. No Priceline offers to raise bid by $20 to win, or anything like that. Would the best strategy be to raise my bid or wait till last minute?
AaronJB Posted July 19, 2011 Report Posted July 19, 2011 Rates are unfortunately high for these dates, so I would recommend working higher by $5's.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
tobius Posted July 19, 2011 Author Report Posted July 19, 2011 Thanks! I ended up getting the Marriott City Center with my last bid of $110. More expensive than the other hotels I've booked for my roadtrip, but really not bad given that there is a conference in town and that the best regular rate was $200. Great support from betterbidding (I booked using the PRICELINE link from your site).
thereuare Posted July 19, 2011 Report Posted July 19, 2011 Congratulations on your success! While perhaps a bit more than you originally thought this would cost, this looks like an excellent deal, and savings, and glad to see you're pleased with the results.Thank you for sharing your win and using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding.Enjoy this leg of your stay.
