goirish89 Posted July 15, 2011 Report Posted July 15, 2011 I have been watching recent bids and tried bidding on 2 rooms in 4* Quincy at $90 then added Copley Square, then increased amount offered in 5 dollar increments while adding Fenway Park and Medford. Had no luck all the way to $110. Added 3.5* and proceeded to add every section in Boston but Logan and Cambridge to stay at 3.5 * and above, again increasing price at 5 dollar increments. Got all the way to $120 and was not successful.Any tips for further bidding? I would like 2 rooms as there are 5 of us--does that make a big difference? I would like to stay at $130 or below per room.
AaronJB Posted July 16, 2011 Report Posted July 16, 2011 Rates are definitely on the higher side for these dates and $130 for a 4* or 3.5* unfortunately does not appear possible, with available 3.5-4*'s on HOTWIRE going between $245-300. If $130 is not accepted, would you prefer to try for a 3* or push higher for a 3.5/4*?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
goirish89 Posted July 16, 2011 Author Report Posted July 16, 2011 Looks like I'll need to increase my price. I had seen the prices around 100 dollars for the Sheraton and thought I'd get lucky. Do you think going for 2 rooms is a problem or does that usually matter?
thereuare Posted July 16, 2011 Report Posted July 16, 2011 Two rooms is usually a non-factor, but if it does have an effect, it's to the downside. What is the best rate you're able to find thru conventional booking channels? Also, note that PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. Is this a risk you're willing to accept? If not, HOTWIRE may still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy per room and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. goirish89 Posted July 20, 2011 Author Report Posted July 20, 2011 Follow up--continued to use Better Bidding tactics and got to 170 dollars a room for 3.5* for that time frame and had no success. Ended up renting an apartment through another online service. Hope I have better luck next time!
