As you're currently aware, rates for these dates are somewhat high and i'm guess that you'll currently need to be somewhere in the mid-$40's for the car types you're seeking.

What is the best available rate you're able to find thru traditional booking channels? What is your maximum bid?

Not sure how much you're willing to go out of your way to save some money, but is renting a car from Downtown (or wherever you're heading towards upon landing) an option? Rates for downtown rentals for these dates are significantly cheaper then the Airport, not to mention the savings by avoiding the excessive 'airport recovery tax' (or whatever they choose to call it these days). Lastly, many downtown locations will allow you to pick-up downtown and return to the airport and not incur a one-way rental surcharge (but you'll need to confirm with rental agency).

Is an alternate location to Downtown an option? (if so you could take the light rail to downtown to pick-up the vehicle) If not, let us know your thoughts regarding best rate elsewhere and maximum bid.

I made my 'backup' cancellable reservation direct through hertz local edition in Renton, WA.

It is supposed to be about a $20 cab ride, but the total for a full size car for my 8 day rental is $345.61.

I will call them Monday and ask about the airport drop-off

Let us know how you make out with the airport drop-off from the Renton location, but usually this option is more applicable to 'downtown' locations... i'd give Avis (where i've previously done this in Seattle) a try, as well as Budget (same parent company)
