Priceline Hotel: 4* Chicago (Millennium Park, Loop & Grant Park Area)

I'm looking for a 4* in the Loop for 8/18-8/27. I'd like the Wit, Palmer House or maybe the Hyatt. The Wit is nice, has great reviews and right next to an El stop but I know there's no guarantees.

This is my first post here and I'm looking for some help on a strategy to get these dates in this zone. I expect to spend somewhere around $80-90$ a night, hopefully not much more. Also, is it too early to start bidding for these dates? I know the airshow is going on the 20-21, not sure if that will effect this or not and if I should try and split up the dates.

Any help would be great and I'll use the PRICELINE link when I start to bid.

Thanks

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

There is definitely no guarantee in terms of getting a specific property. The airshow is generally not an issue in terms of rates - it does not appear to draw much of a tourist/out of town crowd (but is worthwhile viewing. The day before the show, in years past they've done practice runs over the upper North Michigan Ave. and Gold Coast neighborhoods.)

It's more than you were looking to spend, but when searching for these dates on HOTWIRE, there is a 3.5* in the Mag Mile/Streeterville area w/breakfast, fitness, business, laundry, internet. $117 (although the price you see may vary.) This is a possible match for the well-reviewed Amalfi, which is just on the other (North) side of the river. Plus, free breakfast on each floor.

In terms of the 4* Millennium Park/Loop/Grant Park zone on PRICELINE, I would start bidding now and at the $75 level. If $75 is not accepted, then I would move up by $5's.

I've gone up to $90 using both 4* and 3.5* and no luck so far. Do you think I should wait some more? Or add River North Area? I'm looking to stay fairly close to an El stop and that seems less possible in the River North area.

I also thought that maybe since its a longer stay that might affect what they have available. Any thoughts, ideas, etc are appreciated. Thanks

Many choose to bid both the Loop and NMA-River North zone together, but when there is a preference, the NMA-River North zone is usually the more preferred zone. Do you have specific plans/needs for this trip which require you to be close to the El or are you simply thinking in terms of ease of use in getting around the city?

We won't be renting a car and will be using the El and buses to get around so its just more convenient to be close to a El stop. I'm not opposed to adding the River North zone just seems more of the places people are winning are closer to stops in the Loop then North. Just have to keep trying and see what happens.

I've tried to break it up, doing three or four night blocks and still no luck in the Loop up to $90.

I've used the link for my initial bids but not for all the rebids. I also sent you a PM. Its been a couple days since I've tried anything. Thought might wait to get a little closer. Also, thinking about including River North and/or going on Hotwire. For 8/18-8/27 on Hotwire there is a 3* for $101 in Mag Mile-Streeterville with Fitness Center, Pool, Restaurant, Business Center, Laundry Facility and High Speed Internet and 90% recommended. There are a couple others at $121 but I was trying to stay closer to $100 before tax.

I'd like to try Priceline again, but doesn't seem like I can get anything in the Loop for my dates and price point.

Thoughts?

Thanks

While the Loop properties are generally all relatively close to an "L" stop (or in some cases right next to one), many of the properties in the NMA area are close/reasonably close to public transit, and the worst case scenario/furthest properties are not a horrible trek. If the weather's nice and you are primarily interested in staying downtown, you may not find the need to use the "L" extensively. It all depends on what you are looking to do. Personally, if the NMA-River North area presented cheaper rates, I'd go for that.
