laky Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 I am so crushed right now. I am planning on running the half marathon in September. I have been bidding for the NMA & loop areas for Sept 10-12 because there will are transportation options to the starting line from these areas. I was putting in a bid for $86 for 4* but accidentally selected NMA & O'Hare North by mistake. My bid was accepted by The Westin O'Hare. It's not even in Chicago! I don't know what I should do. A part of me hates to see $200 go by & wants to just take what I got by accident. But then I want to cry because that would mean that we would have to wake up super early & navigate the transportation system. Another part of me wants to just suck up the loss & get a hotel in my ideal location for the race. I'd really appreciate any advice. How much do you think a 4* or even a 3.5* in my desired areas on that weekend would even go for? I am so sad right now... please help! This is my first time using this site. I would appreciate any assistance.
AaronJB Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Sorry to hear that you accidentally selected the wrong zone and wound up out by O'Hare. :)I think it's worth contacting PRICELINE and pleading your case (that you have to run a marathon downtown early in the morning, but accidentally selected O'Hare, which is completely not where you need to be) - occasionally the service does allow a user *one* re-do, although with a fee.If you call and they say no, then you're looking at a 50-55 minute "L" ride into the city from around the O'Hare area, then it's a matter of getting to the starting line. Additionally, I'm looking at the map on the website, and they start the race WAY South of the city (http://www.chicagohalfmarathon.com/Assets/Chicago+Half+Marathon+Digital+Assets/Half+Marathon+Course+Map.pdf), according to the map, so that's another trek. You'd have to take the Metra down to the 63rd street stop, if the map I'm looking at is correct. My concern is that if the race starts at 7am, that's an awfully early start to get there using public transit - and on a Sunday where trains aren't as frequent.Rates downtown are on the higher side, due to the Fall season and the marathon.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
