EAnton781 Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 I am bidding on a single room for 9/1 - 9/6 for a 4* in the downtown zones. Any suggestions for dealing with a holiday weekend?Posted rates appear to be from $200 - $300. Today I used re-bid zones up to $126 without luck, am I even in the ballpark for a holiday weekend?
AaronJB Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Please confirm the list of zones you bid on and your desired budget. Additionally, if there is any interest in splitting your stay, the 9/4-6 period is noticeably cheaper when looked at separately - HOTWIRE has a 4* in USE for $118 for those dates alone, but the cheapest 4* for the entire period is about $170.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
EAnton781 Posted July 12, 2011 Author Report Posted July 12, 2011 Splitting is a nice idea, thanks!Budget is not applicable, I'm just happy with a 4* downtown below list, we will be taking this trip regardless.I am bidding:Union Square EastUnion Square West - Nob HillFinancial District - EmbarcaderoSOMA - Moscone Center
thereuare Posted July 13, 2011 Report Posted July 13, 2011 Splitting is a nice idea, thanks! So is your next step to bid higher for the complete stay OR are you looking to SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID and possibly/likely need to change hotels during this stay?Budget is not applicable... we will be taking this trip regardless.Your budget should be based upon the best deal you can get through conventional booking channels, which will ensure that you don't overbid for this stay. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... please click this PRICELINE link before replying. EAnton781 Posted July 13, 2011 Author Report Posted July 13, 2011 So is your next step to bid higher for the complete stay OR are you looking to SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID and possibly/likely need to change hotels during this stay?Yes, I'm looking to split. I spent some more time researching posted prices and often the expensive night is 9/1 and then 9/2-9/6 drop in price (around $160-$220). Since we arrive at SFO late on 9/1 I'm thinking we will stay by the airport the first night which is much cheaper, then check into a downtown hotel on 9/2.So the new bidding strategy is this:1. 9/1, 4*, SFO zone2. 9/2 - 9/6, 4*, Union Square East, Union Square West - Nob Hill, Financial District - Embarcadero, SOMA - Moscone CenterI will use the link to try this evening.
thereuare Posted July 13, 2011 Report Posted July 13, 2011 If it's not clear, you should bid the 9/2-9/6 stay and get something confirmed for these dates before trying for the nite of 9/1.For 9/2-9/6, what is your maximum bid... are you using the same $126/nite that you bid above? Please confirm and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Thanks in advance for using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding. EAnton781 Posted July 13, 2011 Author Report Posted July 13, 2011 Thanks, I will def. lock down the 4-night stay first.I would probably go up to $130 in re-bidding given the published rates in my zones of $160 which is about a 20% savings. I just wonder if that kind of savings is reasonable on a summer holiday weekend in that market. With that in mind, I think I might bid higher next time to 15% or 10% if I don't hit tonight.
