TravelingTim Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 Hi, I have used this forum in past to book deals on PRICELINE, but I am having a little difficulty this time. I am looking for either a 3.5 or 4 star and I can be flexible as long as the hotel is within walking distance to the subway. I have bid up to $160 and still no luck. Perhaps it is too early for these dates? Should I wait a couple weeks and try again?
AaronJB Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Fall in Boston can be expensive at times - unfortunately, this particular week looks pricey, with HOTWIRE 4*'s between $240-290 (no 3.5*'s are showing.) There is no way to know if rates will come down closer to your stay - if this is a busy period, they may stay at elevated levels or head higher. What would be your desired budget per night?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
TravelingTim Posted July 11, 2011 Author Report Posted July 11, 2011 Well, I suppose $175 a night would be my upper limit. Maybe we could try for a 3 star in Copley if rates are going to be high? It should either be the Courtyard or Doubletree, but bidding gets a little trickier at that level.
thereuare Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 I have used this forum in past to book deals on PRICELINE...We're glad the board has been helpful to you in the past, but it would be appreciated if you began to share your wins with the board too so that the information can help other users, just as you have been helped by those who posted before you.Well, I suppose $175 a night would be my upper limit. Maybe we could try for a 3 star in Copley if rates are going to be high? It should either be the Courtyard or Doubletree, but bidding gets a little trickier at that level. What do you want to try first... bidding up to $175 for a 3.5* or better or lowering your star rating? You can try to continue bidding, but note that if you do lower your rating to 3*, while the Courtyard and Doubletree are the only hotels reported to the board at the 3* level, there could always be others not yet known/reported, recently added to the system, or upgraded since last reported.Other options also include SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID and/or looking at the Quincy Market zone to see if that would work for your needs.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. TravelingTim Posted July 11, 2011 Author Report Posted July 11, 2011 I will share what hotel(s) I end up winning. It does appear there are many conventions this week, and I am not opposed to splitting our priceline bids. The question there, though, is when would be most advantageous to split?I would like to start off at the 3.5 star level for copley and the harborfront and go up to $175.
Romelle Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 It does appear there are many conventions this week, and I am not opposed to splitting our priceline bids. The question there, though, is when would be most advantageous to split?Try Expedia (a link under the Support/Travel tab above) and enter Boston and your dates. Then select on hotels that contain Copley in their name. (I know there are other hotels in the area, but selecting for those with Copley in the name is just a quick way to split some relevant ones out.) You can see the daily rates. Not a perfect pattern, but it looks like either the first two or the first three days are a little lower than the remainder. This suggests a 2/5 or a 3/4 split in Priceline. You can easily experiment, since entering different dates constitutes a changed bid with Priceline. You can first bid all 7, then the 3/4 split, and then the 2/5 split all in the same 24 hour session. The next time you bid do make it 24 hours from the last thing you did, not a particular bid.
