First bid $33 for a downtown Portland hotel at 3*. No go. Offered to get me a place for a $9 raise. I didn't but instead added NW Portland (no 3* in the area) and upped to $35 and was accepted.

I'm not sure if it's just me but I feel that I get better prices at the last minute -- I'm leaving for Portland today.

I have stayed at the Holiday Inn Portland before and wasn't impressed. Hope it's better this time.

There are lots of different philosophies as to when to bid, but i find that waiting until the last minute causes panic decisions on hard to book dates and you're always better off wiht time on your side. For further discussion see this thread: BID EARLY or CLOSE TO ARRIVAL?
