jammydodger41 Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 Hi there! Please can someone help me! I have read the sticky and still feel confused! I have read the guide but still not sure how to proceed! I am looking to go to New York and stay 4star in Times Square 9-15th november - How do I do it and get it at the best price!!Thanks a million!
jammydodger41 Posted July 7, 2011 Author Report Posted July 7, 2011 Ok reading the forum now it does not have to be Times Square but somewhere in that area, can anyone recommend any an do i bid for each area one at a time all all of them together?ThanksMichelle!

jammydodger41 Posted July 7, 2011 Author Report Posted July 7, 2011 Looking at $100 starting point! Thanks for your help!
jammydodger41 Posted July 7, 2011 Author Report Posted July 7, 2011 Max 130 maybe and probably would prefer to drop a star and be cheaper! Looking at cheap as possible
thereuare Posted July 8, 2011 Report Posted July 8, 2011 This is an expensive time of year in NYC and i'm very doubtful that $130 will be enough for this stay. What is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable hotel thru conventional booking channels? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jammydodger41 Posted July 8, 2011 Author Report Posted July 8, 2011 I had a play with this today and went up to 114 dollars and not suprised I got a no,.next plan of action...can you recommend zones I can bid on in 4*, 3.5* and 3* and I am thinking tomorrow I might increase to 120. Do I add each zone but keep the value the same and then drop down to the 3.5* and then reduce price but then I can't add or remove areas... How would I do it if there are different one in different zones if that makes sense?I had set my heart on Times Square but will consider other areas that are easy for a first time visitor! Thanks for your help and I am praying for a miracle!

jammydodger41 Posted July 9, 2011 Author Report Posted July 9, 2011 Went up to 125 today and no luck with the 4* and 3.5 star. With priceline do you still have to pay local tax and day rate on this. The reason i am asking I have found a 3* hotel in Midtown East for 880 dollars for the 6 nights so about 147 dollars. The hotel says it inludes taxes but not local taxes so I will have to pay 15% tax when i get there I assume so just working out what to do next really...so is the final priceline price the one you have to pay or will you pay the extra tax when you are there? Is 147 good for a 3 star for November? i think it it cancellable too.ThanksMichelle
AaronJB Posted July 9, 2011 Report Posted July 9, 2011 Taxes/fees are shown during the check-out process on PRICELINE and HOTWIRE before you click to finalize your purchase. What hotel is showing for $147?Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches, or please use the site's links in the Support/Travel section to start your regular rate purchases.
jammydodger41 Posted July 9, 2011 Author Report Posted July 9, 2011 So with priceline that total I'd the final total but when you book with convential sites do you always pay the tax when you leave? It's the pod hotel not luxuary but would only be for sleeping and has a good location! Would rather get a better hotel for the money but don't think it's going to happen!
AaronJB Posted July 9, 2011 Report Posted July 9, 2011 Keep in mind that the basic rooms at the Pod are shared bath. A 3* PRICELINE win would be a better option as it would offer a private bath.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted July 9, 2011 Report Posted July 9, 2011 I'm not sure of the terms of your back-up reservation... you should really contact whoever you're booking thru to determine what taxes will be paid upon arrival/check-out directly to the hotel.I'll also add that if you're comparing a shared bathroom at the Pod, that's not really a 3* hotel/experience, so you're not comparing apples-to-apples.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jammydodger41 Posted July 10, 2011 Author Report Posted July 10, 2011 Sounds like an idea... I like that Priceline there are no hidden fees...What price do you think I should bid for a 3 star on price line...at The Moment I have been doing Time Square, Midtown West and East, Empire state Building and Central Park South...do you think I can do better for the price?really appreciate all your help.I am up to about 120 dollars but thought best to start low... what price do you think I could get one for realistically and would a 3 star in one of these areas be ok??Trying to save the pennies and have more to spend when we there!
Romelle Posted July 10, 2011 Report Posted July 10, 2011 Your statement about no hidden fees is indeed true for NY, but wanted to alert you that hotels is the classic vacation areas - Florida, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, etc. do add on a "Resort Fee" that is not included in one's PRICELINE bid. Also, if you are pretty flexible about location and willing to trade some time for those $$s, the JFK airport hotels can be quite a bit less expensive. And then use public transport to get downtown. Complicated for a first-timer, but doable.
thereuare Posted July 10, 2011 Report Posted July 10, 2011 For a 3* i'm guessing you're looking closer to $150-$170... and i actually think it will likely take more then this, but HOTWIRE has a 3* in the ESB zone for $171 which seems to be decently reviewed which i would probably consider before bidding higher then this on PRICELINE.I wouldn't necessarily recommend JFK as an alternative... via cheap transportation it's over an hour each way, and while shorter mass transit options are available, they start at about $7/per person each way, which for a couple can add $30 in commuting costs to your total expenses, which is money i would sooner put towards a more centrally located hotel. As well, the hotels out there generally do not get very good reviews... i would sooner look to the immediate outskirts of the city such as Hoboken, Brooklyn, Queens, etc.Speaking of which, is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option?HOTWIRE has a great deal in Hoboken/Jersey City for Nov 11-15, a 4* hotel for $115/nite. You could stay your first 2 (or 3 or 4) nites in NYC at a more expensive rate, then go to Hoboken for the last 4 (or 3 or 2) nites of your stay. I didn't look too closely (yet, as i don't know if this is an option) but you may be able to get the balance of your nites in Hoboken/Jersey city for $150/nite.You do lose the 'vibe' of NYC, but Hoboken/Jersey is convenient via PATH train and the 4* hotels in the area are very nice.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jammydodger41 Posted July 11, 2011 Author Report Posted July 11, 2011 Thanks for the info..think we would rather stay some where central and go lower star and be where the action is...I am up to 145 on 4, 3.5 and 3 star! Its thought about it longer on the 3 star so may push it a little bit tomorrow and then just cap it at 150 I think and keep trying!looking at Hotwire the 3* ESB one does sound good slightly over budget... how do you work out which hotel it could be? They also have a 2 star in MSG for 105 a night which i bang smack in budget and comes with free breakfast! Bonus! But Cannot work out if it is the Hotel Pennsylvania or maybe the Holiday inn express but that is a 3 star!!Gutted not getting any where on my bidding!!!Thanks for all your help
AaronJB Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 Please provide the amenities showing with both listings of interest and we would be happy to try to ID.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
jammydodger41 Posted July 11, 2011 Author Report Posted July 11, 2011 thanksMSGComplimentary Breakfast High-Speed Internet Access ESBIts stopped working now!! Will try again later!thanks
thereuare Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 For the 2* MSG property, the Best Western Convention Center has previously been seen with this amenity set, so that would be my best guess for this one. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help.
