RatPackEra Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 Hi Everyone,I'm a complete newbie to Priceline so pardon my newbness. I'm looking for a 3+ star (Don't want the Sandman though) in Richmond BC (Near the Vancouver airport) for Sept 1 to Sept 4th. The lowest prices for 3.5 stars are all around $115 on HOTWIRE right now. I put in a ridiculous bid of $55 for 3.5 stars and it obviously got rejected. Based on my research, i'm okay with the following:3 Star - Max of $65 per night (Okay with Holiday Inn, Sheraton, Four Points but DON'T WANT Sandman)3.5 star - Max of $75 per night (Okay with any of them - Delta, Marriott or Hilton)4 Star - Max of $85 per night (Okay with Westin)How do i proceed?. How do i bid 3 stars but not end up with the Sandman?. thanks in advance.
thereuare Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! How do i bid 3 stars but not end up with the Sandman? You don't... when you bid on PRICELINE you need to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating, or higher, that you choose. So if there is a 3* hotel that you are not willing to accept, then you need to keep your bidding at 3.5* and higher. Also, keep in mind that the hotels in the Priceline Hotel List are only those reported to the board by users, so there could be others not yet reported OR a hotel already reported but currently at a different star level, if the rating has changed since last reported (see the comments at the top of the hotel list)Given the above, assuming you still want to proceed, let us know if you're willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* OR if your goal is the least expensive 3.5* or better for this stay (in other words, should we try for the 4* first up to $85 or a 3.5* first up to $75)Let us know and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... please click this PRICELINE link before replying.Thanks. RatPackEra Posted July 12, 2011 Author Report Posted July 12, 2011 Just to add closure to this thread. Went through the PRICELINE link on this website and got a 3.5 star for $78 at Delta Vancouver Airport. (Pretty good price for the Labor Day long weekend (Sept 1st to Sept 4th))Tried $55 (Failed)Tried $65 (Failed)Tried $72 (Failed)Tried $78 (Success)All under area 8 (YVR) and all 3.5 stars+ selected .... done over the past few days.Rack rate at Delta is $161 so i'm happy with the price. Free wifi in lobby and self parking is $14 though.I went up to 3.5 stars because i didn't want the risk of ending up with Executive or Sandman (which is not what i would prefer). Although i would have been happy with Sheraton or Four Points but it would have been around $70-75 for that weekend and i think i would flip out if i'm paying that for Executive. :) At least with 3.5 stars, i'm getting either the Marriot, Hilton, or Delta (All fine hotels that i would have been content with).
