peacechik Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 Started at $55 for a 3*, used 5 free rebids (Bayside, Elmhurst, Jamaica and combinations) up to $75. No luck. Will try again in a couple days.Used your PRICELINE link.
thereuare Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 Thanks for the data point and using the PRICELINE link on the board to begin your bidding. While cheaper then Manhattan, deals in this airport zone can be difficult to win and, unfortunately, most of the hotels have less then stellar reviews. Is this just a quick overnite or this is the last day of a longer trip and you want to stay near the airport the nite before your trip? peacechik Posted July 6, 2011 Author Report Posted July 6, 2011 Arriving JFK 9pm. Just need a clean place to sleep before departing for LHR 12 hours later. I've pricelined here before--had luck pricelining a 2.5 star years ago that was fine for what it was. If you have other thoughts, I'd love to hear.Thank you.
thereuare Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 I suspect you'll be successful somewhere near $80-$100. HOTWIRE has some 2.5* and 3* hotels $95-$105, but they have very low approval ratings (~55%) which reinforces my comments above about the area not being that great for hotels. The best rated hotels in the area is often the Hampton Inn, but i haven't checked hotel direct prices. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. peacechik Posted July 9, 2011 Author Report Posted July 9, 2011 Tried priceline tonight. Started at 3* JFK at $65, used 5 free bids up to $90, got counteroffer to up bid by $15. Ignored, logged out. Tried last bid at $93. Got another $15 counteroffer. Will try again. Have a backup at the Hampton Inn for $188 night including all taxes. 3 star hotels like Hilton Garden Inn and Marriott Courtyard are pricing at $269 for the night of 7/20. Used your PRICELINE links.
thereuare Posted July 9, 2011 Report Posted July 9, 2011 The Hampton Inn is one of the best reviewed hotels in the area, but at about half price, and considering it's just a one nite layover, i'd probably roll the dice with PRICELINE as you're doing. Thanks for using the PRICELINE links on the board and good luck with your next round of bidding. peacechik Posted July 25, 2011 Author Report Posted July 25, 2011 Ended up staying at the Hampton Inn--booked a AAA price of $161. Needed two beds, so didn't want to chance it. Shuttle came quickly. Room all right. Will look for another hotel (need one with a pool to entertain kids) on the way back. Had dinner after 9:30p next door at JFK hotel and it was surprisingly good. Had a few issues that were addressed by hotel staff to our satisfaction. Thanks for all your help.
