Hey guys,

First post here, so cheers! I need help bidding on a 4* NYC MTE - 08/24/11 to 08/30/11. How much should i offer? Also, i read the re-bid strategy post but i came out with a question. When i select 4* MTE the average price for the period is $389 but when i select Coney Island AND MTE the average price drops to $291. How is it possible to the average price for a 4* drop if there is no 4* on the second selected area? In this case, is safe to add CIS to my re-bid strategy?

Thanks in advance,

Carlos.

Ok, done.

I decided i could stay in Times Square area as well so yesterday i bidded like this and none got accepted.

MTE $160,00

MTE + TS $170,00

MTE + TS + LONG ISLAND $180,00

MTE + TS + LONG ISLAND + Queensborough $190,00

MTE + TS + LONG ISLAND + Queensborough + UPPER EAST $200,00

Didnt use coney island as a re-bid zone because the average price drops, like described on my first post.

What do you guys think about the price that time of the year?

Thank you.

The zones in NYC are fairly compact and adjacent to one another... is there a reason why you feel only MTE and TS would work for your needs? For the average user MTE, MTW, TS, CPS and ESB all typically work well, unless there is a specific hotel you're trying to avoid.

If you only want the zones you've previously bid, HOTWIRE has a 4* MTE offered for $214/nite which i'm guessing is the W New York... are you interested in this property for just a little more than you have already bid?

The reason i'd like to stay on MTE is because i checked the NY hotel list on this forum and liked more the hotels on that region. I could stay on TS but considering its too crowded its not my first option. Didn't like most ESB hotels, as well as CPS. Basically, considering there is no big difference among those regions, i'm picking the ones with the hotels i liked most. Concerning the HOTWIRE offer, i did check it thru your link but it only gives me a 4* on MTE for $286. I think i may get a hotel for a lower price. I was wondering if i could book one around $200. Although i could afford up to $300 on my budged its always nice to get a cheaper deal. :) How much would you think a winning bid would be on MTE and TS for that time of the year?

Tx a lot for your help.

October is substantially more expensive, and in terms of a 4* in MTE, you're likely looking at around $225-250 and quite possibly mildly higher.

Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option?

Also, if you're restricting your bidding to just two zones because you're trying to target/avoid specific hotels, you may also want to consider HOTWIRE where you may be able to identify the property being offered before your purchase based upon the amenities shown. While HOTWIRE is usually a little more expensive then PRICELINE, you may ultimately do better purchasing a HOTWIRE hotel in a zone you might otherwise not have considered bidding on.

Splitting is not an option at all.

Also, considering its my first time using HOTWIRE or PRICELINE, its hard for me to identify the hotel. If you guys could help me doing that, and i know it's not 100% sure, i would probably try it.

Should i bid this early or wait until August/September?

Ty again.

What are the amenities of the MTE HOTWIRE property you're seeing? Are you wiling to pay $286/nite?

As far as purchasing now or in August/September, see the related 'Bid Early or Close to Check-in' thread in our PRICELINE FAQ.

4* in MTE for $286: Restaurant, business and high speed. (that's all). 85% of hotwire costumers (from 50+ reviews) and 4.5/5.0 trip advisor.

4* in TS for $335: Smoke Free Rooms, Fitness, Restaurant, business, high speed, spa. 95% of hotwire costumers (from 200+ reviews) and 4.0/5.0 trip advisor.

Could afford both prices, but of course i'll always take cost/benefit into consideration.

Ty very much for your help and i'll make sure to use your links.

My guess for the 4* MTE would be the Kimberly, while my guess for the 4* TS would be the Westin.

Additionally, 70 Park Avenue is $296 on Expedia and appears to be non-refundable (although double check the fine print.) That property is in the Empire State Building zone, but is near MTE. That's a Kimpton property w/a free wine reception in the evening. If non-refundable, that could be an idea as a back-up reservation and you can wait and see if rates do drop closer to your stay - if they did, you could cancel. If not (or if they went even higher, which is possible) then at least you'd be set with a back-up.

Bid last night as follow with no success:

I'd like to stay in MTE or TS.

MTE $220,00

MTE + MADISON $230,00

MTE + MADISON + LONG ISLAND $235,00

MTE + MADISON + LONG ISLAND + QUEENSBOROUGH $240,00

MTE + MADISON + LONG ISLAND + QUEENSBOROUGH + UPPER EAST $245,00

TS $250,00

TS + MTE $255,00

TS + MTE + MADISON $260,00

TS + MTE + MADISON + LONG ISLAND $265,00

TS + MTE + MADISON + LONG ISLAND + QUEENSBOROUGH $270,00

TS + MTE + MADISON + LONG ISLAND + QUEENSBOROUGH + UPPER EAST $275,00

Any tips? I'm guessing it's going to cost me near $300, kinda expensive for priceline, don't you think?

Thanks,

Carlos.

Unfortunately, rates this high are not unusual during the Fall/Winter in NYC, especially for a longer stay.

At this point, with the HOTWIRE 4* MTE at $286, I'd suggest going for that if PRICELINE does not accept a 4* bid at $280 for MTE.

230 sq ft is common for NYC, and a number of properties at the 3.5/4* level have smaller rooms, most notably the Hudson at 130 sq ft. I believe the Roosevelt is also around 150, the W New York's around 200-220, among many other examples. Rooms in NYC are definitely on the smaller side.

I'm considering adding MTW to my desired zones, but was afraid of getting some hotels like City Club, Algonquin and The Shoreham. Would u let me know your thoughts about those hotels?

Ty.
