Priceline Hotel: Booking for NYC is wearing me out!

Been trying to book a room for NYC for one night. check in 8/30, check out 8/31. My first choice was Times Square, Second Choice is MTW, third Choice CPS. I tried all the combos below and still no luck. I thought I'd hit on the Hudson hotel in the CP zone since some other users had got it for <120 in the last couple of weeks.

Should I try again and keep going higher on some of them? or should I try again later this week using my same dollars in hopes that the prices have dropped? I can book the Edison on Expedia for $190, so bidding much higher seems futile. I'm not sure where the Edison ranks on Price Line's star system, but it would be much easier to just book it for $190 and know exactly what I am getting and that the location is where I prefer it to be.

Ay thoughts?

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Please start by reading your messages.

Not sure if it will help, but is the ESB zone an option? Is there a reason you're avoiding MTE?

Based upon your bidding, am i correct that you're more concerned with location than star rating?

From what i know of the Edison... great location, not so great rooms.

Hi thereuare! Thanks for your reply. I go to NYC one or twice per year and usually book using methods other than Price Line. I've stayed in quite a few areas over the years, but prefer the 3 I chose. It's just a personal thing...MTE is too far East for me. I like staying near the Red, Orange and Blue lines since most of what I do is near those. I thought I would give this Price Line thing a try, so here I am!

You are correct that location is more important, Star Rating would be nice, but not as high priority as location.

Any idea approximately what Star Rating Edison would be considered on Price Line? I've stayed there before so that'll help me gauge things a bit. I went ahead and booked a refundable reservation at Edison for $194 + $32 in taxes.

Thanks for the links!

Hard to say what PRICELINE's rating of the Edison would be... i'm guessing a 3*. You can actually get a better sense of how PRICELINE rates hotels by looking at the Priceline Hotel List and seeing what PRICELINE rates each of the properties in the list (based upon last reports to the board)

If you continue to bid the zones and star ratings above, note that at the 3.5* level in the CPS the Hudson Hotel is an option... a decent enough hotel but notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards). This may work fine for your needs and you'll continue to bid this zone at 3.5*, but it's something you should at least be aware of so that you're not surprised should you land this hotel.

HOTWIRE does have what i believe to be the Cassa Hotel and Residences for $205/nite ($255 all-in) which is more than your back-up reservation, but it has a very good location and the hotel gets good reviews... just thought i'd mention in case any interest. If not, still plenty of time between now and your trip so i'd continue to bid and hope for lower rates in the weeks ahead.

Good luck! Keep us updated and let us know if we can be of further help in the weeks ahead.
