Hi,

I am booking for room(s) in NYC (Manhattan) and am unsure if using Priceline will be the best for our party of 5 since I have only had limited luck using hotel sites or travel site (e.g. Expedia, etc.) when looking for 1 room for all.

Now I am considering booking 2 rooms (3* is fine) at a low rate which might beat booking an expensive room (>$380/ night) for all. I am wondering if I can book 2 rooms for $125/ night each.

The areas we are considering are CPS, Chelsea, Downtown, ESB, MTE, MTW, TS

thanks!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, so even if you bid on 2 rooms, you're still taking some risk since one of your rooms would need triple occupancy. Using PRICELINE for more than double occupancy is a great risk in NYC since there is a such a high proportion of rooms with only one bed in the room, but bidding CPS at less than 4* increases this risk since one of the hotels in this zone, the Hudson Hotel, has notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards) and only one bed.

While at the moment i don't think $125 will be enough for a 3* or better hotel, we can suggest a strategy if you want to give it a try, but let us know if you'd like to include CPS or not. Also, note that 2 rooms at $125/room is substantially below your $380 room for 5 people... what is your thought process for using $125 as your maximum bid given the alternative so much more?

Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly.
