ngunnels Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 My mom and i are looking for a hotel in nyc from Aug. 5-8.We are looking for a hotel in the center city part, so anywhere but long island, brooklyn or coney island would be great. We do not want to pay more than $100/night because there is a howard johnson in long island (next to a subway)that is $100 and it is our alternative if we cannot find anything better.-3 nights-2* or better (would like better)-need to be in walking distance of subway (10 minutes or more is not acceptable)-short subway rides (20+ minutes is not acceptable either)Thanks! (:

ngunnels Posted June 30, 2011 Author Report Posted June 30, 2011 The ones on priceline are:-central park south-chelsea area-hell's kitchen-empire state building-madison square garden-midtown east-midtown west-queensborough bridge-times square theater district-upper east side-upper west sidewe would like to not be far from a subway, so if any of these areas could possibly putus far from one, we dont want to bid on it. (far- more than 10 minute walk)

(far- more than 10 minute walk)Could you extend this to 15 minutes as i think that would expand your options greatly and still be better then staying at the HoJo in LIC, imo.Let us know your thoughts and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ngunnels Posted July 1, 2011 Author Report Posted July 1, 2011 we plan to use the subway alot while we are there, so anything under 10 minutes would be ideal.would we still be able to get a better deal even if we didnt want a place that is 15 minutes from a subway?
thereuare Posted July 1, 2011 Report Posted July 1, 2011 The issue is that when you bid on PRICELINE you can receive a hotel anywhere within the shaded boundaries of the zone. While NYC is fairly compact, some of the zones do extend all the way to the east side or west side, so if you must stay within a 10 minute walk, you can't bid these zones since part of the zone will be a little further then you would like.As well, you're budget is a little low for NYC, so if you are successful it will likely be at one of the lower rated hotels, which (due to real estate cost) has a greater chance of being on the outskirts of a zone rather then more centrally located. Also, especially at the lower star levels, i wouldn't recommend UES and UWS, as each of these zones extends fairly far north which is usually not the best location for the average visitor.Lastly, i assume you intentionally left out the Downtown zone? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts/comments on the above and we'll take it from there. ngunnels Posted July 1, 2011 Author Report Posted July 1, 2011 yeah, i understand.and i left out downtown because somewhere i read that to travel to other areas it would most likely be a 25-30 minute subway ride. we dont want to do that either.i think our best deal right now is just staying in the hojo in long island.thanks for your help though (:
