bayder Posted June 29, 2011 Report Posted June 29, 2011 Hi, I'm looking for assitance in the best strategy for a Manhatten hotel for 7/17-7/19, 2 adults, 2 kids, 1 room. From what I've read, Priceline is NOT the way to go since they don't guarantee more than double occupancy, so I'm assuming Hotwire is the best option. I'd really like Times Square area, 3.5-4 stars, and would like to spend under $180/night. If going to a neighboring zone could save me $30+/night, I might do that. Thanks!
AaronJB Posted June 29, 2011 Report Posted June 29, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)HOTWIRE offers a set of listings that offer price, amenities, zone and star rating - you don't find the result until after purchase. You can find more information here: I've Never Used Priceline or HotwireAdditionally, while Times Square is generally the most popular area, I wouldn't recommend it to stay in - it's generally more expensive, hectic/busy and it's pretty easy to get there from other nearby zones (Midtown East, Midtown Central, etc.)If you search on HOTWIRE for your dates, are there any listings of interest?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
bayder Posted June 30, 2011 Author Report Posted June 30, 2011 Hi and thanks! For my date range I'm not getting anything but 3* hotels, and I'd prefer 3.5 or 4. I added Chelsea, MT East, and ESB. I got the following results:Times Square: 178Chelsea: 192MT East: 173ESB: 212If nothing above 3* is showing up does that mean there is no availability above that? Thanks!
thereuare Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 If nothing above 3* is showing up does that mean there is no availability above that?Yes, it means that HOTWIRE has no availability at this time. Part of the 'issue' is that rooms to accommodate quad occupancy in NYC are at a premium, so unless it's a very slow time and/or occupancy is very low, many hotels may not offer those rooms out to the opaque suppliers at deeply discounted rates, and therefore availability can be limited. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. bayder Posted June 30, 2011 Author Report Posted June 30, 2011 Again, thanks for the help! Today I got a 4* in Times Square, $281. Any chance of helping to ID that? There was also a 3* for $182...again, any help ID'ing? Thanks!
AaronJB Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 Please provide the amenity icons showing with each listing and we would be happy to try to ID.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
bayder Posted June 30, 2011 Author Report Posted June 30, 2011 Here are 3 properties I'm looking for help ID'ing:Times Square 4*, $281, Fitness, Restaurants, Bus. Center, Hi-speed InternetTimes Square 3*, $182, non-smoking, Restaurants, Bus. Center, Hi-speed InternetChelsea/MSG 3*, $192, comp. breakfast, Fitness, Bus. Center, Hi-speed InternetAlso, we absolutely need a non-smoking room. Is this an issue typically if the property does not disply non-smoking icon?Much thanks!!!
thereuare Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 Also, we absolutely need a non-smoking room. Is this an issue typically if the property does not disply non-smoking icon?If a non-smoke room is a need vs. a want then you should only choose a property displaying the non-smoking icon. As most hotels today have many more non-smoking rooms then smoking rooms, and some hotels are entirely smoke-free, odds favor that you'll be able to get a non-smoking room by request, but there are some situations where the hotel is very busy and/or at or near full capacity and won't be able to accommodate your request for a non-smoking room. Therefore, if a non-smoking room is a must have then you should choose a hotel displaying the Smoke Free icon. The 3* Times Square property above (the only one listed with a Smoke Free icon) matches the Belvedere so that would be my best guess for this one. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help.
