Hotwire Hotel: Hotwire July hotels

I'm searching for a hotel for July 19-23rd, 2 beds and preferably $200 or less. I'm quite open to zones in Manhattan UWS, UES, midtown, Chelsea, downtown/LES, etc. I'd of course prefer 4 * but am looking at 3.5* also. Don't need restaurant or meals in house (can get coffee and bagel anywhere!) but would like internet access and must have no smoking.

I see there is a 4* Midtown Central listing with fitness center access and internet for $208 for 2 adults.

There is also a 3.5* in Empire State area, Boutique, Restaurant, internet for $194.

I'd like advice on whether these are good deals, where they may be, and how I can be sure there are 2 beds. Also, would it be better to try bidding on priceline? Seems folks are saying they don't provide 2 beds for 2 adults.

PRICELINE only ensures one bed/double occupancy and that is particularly true in NYC - using the service for two beds in NYC is definitely a risk.

In terms of HOTWIRE, how many people are you searching for? If searching for two people, then 1 bed is the most likely result.

I am searching for 2 people 2 beds.So is it not possible to do this on these sites and I'd have to go for the higher cost routes?

HOTWIRE allows you to search for up to quad occupancy per room and ensures sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search. Since four people can't sleep in one bed, this ensures more than one bed in the room... but the second 'bed' could be a pullout sofabed, a rollaway brought into the room, etc. Would this be acceptable?

Also, sometimes the savings on PRICELINE can be greater than 50% (you can't count on this for any given stay, but it does happen) so after checking 'retail' rates you could also try to determine if bidding on two rooms would cost about the same amount.
