Hi! First time trying to bid for travel, so I wanted to confirm a few things before I make the leap. I am planning to travel to Chicago 7/8-7/10. We are planning to visit Shedd's, Navy Pier, Mueseums, etc. I think the Loop area would be the best since it's close to pulic transit but there are a lot more options in the Mag Mile. Any feedback on how far the walk would be to public transit if staying in the Mag Mile area. The kids are teens so wouldn't be concerned if it's a bit of a walk.

There are 2 adults and 2 kids in the group, so I've ruled out Priceline since I can't request the number of beds.

Hotwire has the Loop 3* for $116 and 4* for $196. It also lists Mag Mile 3* for $121, 3.5* for $145 and 4.5* for $168. I'm leaning toward the Loop 3* since it's in the area I think I want and the 4* seems like a lot of extra money for the upgrade. Looking at the hotel list, I think this is La Quinta. Not usually a brand I would choose, but the reveiws for this hotel seem pretty good. Any thoughts on these options and whether one is better than the other?

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

A few thoughts:

Navy Pier is popular, but I'd really recommend skipping it; the rides are expensive, restaurants rather ordinary and it really falls within the category of tourist trap. I often suggest the Lincoln Park area as an alternative - Lincoln Park Zoo is free, the Old Town neighborhood nearby is very nice (and has Second City, among other sights), there's a lot to do in Lincoln Park and the Chicago Historical Society is nearby, as is a really nice Farmer's Market a couple of days a week.

The Shedd is worth visiting, but get there early. It's not as much fun when it's jammed. A "family-friendly" meal option that I recommend is Flat-Top Grill; there's a location in the Loop, as well as on the North Side over by Old Town. This is a "make your own Stir Fry" restaurant. The website (http://www.flattopgrill.com/) has promos if you sign up for their email program; the food isn't unbelievably good, but it's certainly tasty and the ability to go back again and again (if you choose to pay for unlimited) makes for a good value - plus the ability to change things up each time.

Please provide the amenities showing with each listing and we'd be happy to try and ID them. I will note with that La Quinta that it is in the West Loop, and that area is both rather inconvenient and will definitely be on the quiet side at night.
