jenerek
Hi, I'm looking for 2 rooms at a 4* hotel in Jersey (preferably the Hyatt Regency or the Westin) for the above dates. I'm new to Priceline and have read about re-bidding by changing the zones etc. But what strategy should I use? What price should I start with bidding the 2 rooms on these dates? Thanks. Link to comment
thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding!Rates in Jersey City are a bit on the high side at the moment... so we don't suggest a strategy which goes higher then you're willing to pay, what is your maximum bid for theses nites? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jenerek
Thanks for your feedback. Our budget is around ~$130 or less / night. Initially we thought of staying in Jersey city as a base to visit NYC during the day. If this is the case, is it better to go and stay at a 3* hotel in NYC instead? If so, where's the good area in NYC for my budget? Link to comment
thereuare
Jersey City is a great option when it offers a significant discount to staying NYC, however, at the moment i think a $130 budget may be a little tough in both the Manhattan and Jersey City areas. If you want to give it a try, few questions first..How would you feel about a 15 minute walk to the subway? Would this be acceptable or too inconvenient? What about a small room? (~150 sq ft)Let us know the above as that will at least give us some insight as to any zones which may need to be avoided. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jenerek
I can settle for a small room but would prefer its proximity to the subway station.Budget wise, I'm ok to up a bit to $150 as we'll be staying for 2 nights afterall. What do you think? Link to comment
thereuare
If you bid NYC first, at the 3* level are CPS, ESB, MSG, MTW and TS all acceptable? (i've excluded MTE since at less then 4* some hotels can be a bit far east)Please confirm and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jenerek
Thanks thereuare - I'm fine with those locations. Just curious to know should I also include Downtown SOHO Financial District in there? Also, will any of the places offer reasonable parking fees? Please advise the strategy and I'll try out the bids... :) Link to comment
thereuare
...should I also include Downtown SOHO Financial District in there?Downtown is certainly do-able, but less convenient for the average visitor, as it's about a 20=25 minute subway ride to midtown. If some/most of your plans include the Downtown area then this zone is certainly acceptable as well.Ultimately it comes down to budget vs. convenience. Let us know if you want to include Downtown in a bidding strategy or not and we'll advise accordingly. Also, will any of the places offer reasonable parking fees?Reasonable is relative in NYC, but typically you'll be better off parking your car at a garage independent from the hotel. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jenerek
Well, if we thought of Jersey City at the beginning, I think downtown SOHO is doable? No?Pls include downtown in the bidding strategy and advise... Thx! Link to comment

jenerek
I bid up to $190 but no luck... Is my price realistic?Shall I try again in the next couple of days? Link to comment
AaronJB
August is usually one of the cheaper (in comparison to other times of year) times in NYC, but rates have remained elevated this year during the Summer months. I'd wait a few days and try again up to $190.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches. Link to comment
