Priceline Hotel: Tips for Savannah for the Fourth?

Looking to go to Savannah for the weekend of the Fourth (Friday July 1 - Tuesday July 5). I'd like at least a 2.5 star, and I think I'd like Downtown or Midtown.

I tried low-ball bidding for 3 stars up to $66, but got rejected. What should I be aiming for in 2.5 or 3 stars?

Also, I haven't been to Savannah. Should I consider other zones for a general sight-seeing visit?

Thanks for any tips

I'd like Downtown or Midtown
By 'Downtown' are you referring to the Historic-Riverfront zone? With the Holiday weekend i would suspect that at least this zone would be fairly expensive.
I'd like at least a 2.5 star...

Are you willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel OR is your goal the least expensive 2.5* or better for this stay?

Yes, sorry, I was referring to the Historic-Riverfront zone. I have found that 3* rooms in that zone were from $160 - $190 retail, while a 2.5* was running around $130.

In the Midtown zone, 3* were $140-$150, and 2.5* rooms were around *120 retail. I did see a post by someone who said they have a 2.5* in the Midtown zone for less than $40 last week.

I guess my goal is the least expensive 2.5* or better. I'm just not sure how much the holiday weekend should impact my bidding strategy.

Thanks!

I'm not sure what you're trying to get to? I have used name-your-own price bidding on priceline several times, so I know it's worthwhile. I was really hoping for some tips on how to book a trip to Savannah at a budget price. (Will the holiday make a discount greater than 50% unreasonable? Are the other zones in Savannah far away from the action? )

I guess I'm not asking good questions or giving you the information you need to help me. I'll keep plugging away at it. Thanks.

Given the rates I'm seeing, I'm guessing you're looking at $75-95 for a 3* in the downtown zone. If you were denied at $65, I'd keep moving up by $5's.
