lunademiel Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 Hi! So excited to see this resource. We are trying to book our honeymoon, so we'd like to know if Hotwire guarantees that there will not be a double bed situation. How do we know what type of bed there is? Are all of these prices for standard rooms? Here is what we are looking at right now: 4* Mag Mile streeterville$125 for Jul-26-Jul30amenities:BoutiqueNon smokingFitnessRestaurantsBusinessWireless internetor4*Millenium Park Grant Park Hotel$109 for Jul26-Jul30Amenities:BoutiqueFitnessRestaurantsBusinessWifiWhat do you think?? Thank you!!
AaronJB Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Happy (early) Anniversary! A few thoughts:The 4* HOTWIRE Mag Mile is a possible match for the Sax or Felix, while the 4* Loop is a possible match for the Allegro.Given the discounted rates, HOTWIRE and PRICELINE reservations are for regular/non-upgraded rooms. In terms of Bedding type is not guaranteed, but in a major city where rooms with two beds sometimes go for a premium due to supply/demand, hotels generally are more likely to give HOTWIRE/PRICELINE customers a room w/1 bed vs. 2. You can call after booking and request one bed (although no guarantees on size) instead of a room with two.A couple of regular rate suggestions:The Drake is $185 on Expedia for a King room (coupon BRIGHT11 should take $10 off per night - $175.) The benefit is that this also includes a breakfast buffet, according to Expedia (not usual for this hotel, guessing a special rate.) The Drake would be great if you are looking for old world/historic/grand - that is a classic old-world property at the North tip of the NMA shopping area. If you are looking for a boutique, the Amalfi is a modern, well-reviewed (and well-located) property in the River North area (which does offer breakfast.). That's $163 on sale on Orbitz (and coupon code ORBITZ5 should take 5% off). The Omni Suites is also $169 on Expedia if you'd like a suite property right on Michigan Ave (although no breakfast.)This would require a move, but if you would be interested in a 5* property, the Ritz Carlton is $375 for the first two nights on Expedia, third night free. BRIGHT11 would take $10 off each of the two nights, then you could move to a 4* Mag Mile/Streeterville HOTWIRE listing for $114 for the last night. That would be $844/4 = $211 average per night and require a move, but this would be an option if a 5* was of interest.Or we would be happy to offer suggestions on PRICELINE bidding, although with that you would have to be willing to accept any 4* in the area you bid on.Let us know your thoughts and we would be happy to offer further suggestions. Additionally, please let us know if you have any city questions.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE or Orbitz or Expedia links to start your purchases and searches.
lunademiel Posted June 25, 2011 Author Report Posted June 25, 2011 Ok, great. We are using your links to decide between our options. We are grateful for the additional resources. We read reviews for Sax and Felix and we might not go with that Hotwire option. Amalfi using your Orbitz link looks pretty good. However, there is now a 4* North Michigan Avenue - Water Tower - Gold Coast area hotelJul 26-Jul 30Amenities:BoutiqueSmoke FreeFitnessRestaurantsBusinessWiFiGolf Nearbyrecommended by %40 percent? <-------Should we be worried about this?$105Thank you for your help again.
lunademiel Posted June 25, 2011 Author Report Posted June 25, 2011 We booked it! We got Hotel 71 (3.5* smoke free, boutique, restaurant, business, wifi, fitness) for $130 per night--jul.26-30.We read so many reviews and we had initially considered booking hotel71 directly. Then after researching through this website we saw another forum about a hotel71 win and we tried it. Now the money we saved can be used to make our honeymoon special. Thank you for your help and links to book. Any other tips about great finds near hotel71 in regards to food/ must sees would be cool too. Thanks!
AaronJB Posted June 26, 2011 Report Posted June 26, 2011 Congrats on your success. :)Very nice deal for this property and glad you are pleased with the result - hope you have a wonderful honeymoon. Additionally, while HOTWIRE reservations are for regular/non-upgraded rooms, you may want to ask about the river view rooms at this property, as a river view room on a high floor would make for a nice upgrade. There is a Corner Bakery a couple of doors North of this property - Corner is good for a quick, on-the-go bite and is open for breakfast/lunch/dinner.Let us know what you are looking for in terms of sights and dining and we would be happy to offer suggestions.Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's HOTWIRE link.Enjoy your stay.
