ashtx Posted June 22, 2011 Report Posted June 22, 2011 Hello! I've never used Priceline before but I understand the basics; just looking for some insider advice from the pros.Dates are set for 4 nights, check in on 8/10, check out on 8/14. Location either in Dupont or Georgetown North.Where should I start bidding for either a 3.5 or 4 star hotel? Would love to get a 4 star for around $100/night (or slightly more), but I'm not sure if that's realistic... I'm thinking by that time in August, prices might have dropped though..? And if I can't get a 4 star for that price then I'm willing to drop to 3.5.I did notice there was a 4.5 star on Hotwire for $118 (looks like its The Fairfax at Embassy Row) and I'm wondering if I can get it for lower on Priceline... or if that's pretty much as good as it gets and I should snag it now :)Also, am I looking too early? Thanks so much for any advice!! This is a great forum.
thereuare Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding!Your budget seems reasonable... PRICELINE is usually a little cheaper then HOTWIRE, but HOTWIRE gives you the ability to take a guess as to the hotel you may receive before your purchase, as well as know the amenities offered by the hotel (important if you are looking for something that has a pool, is beachfront, etc)If you want to try bidding on PRICELINE, are you willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel OR is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this stay?Let us know the above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ashtx Posted June 23, 2011 Author Report Posted June 23, 2011 My goal is to get a 4* around $100 (+/- around $15), and if I can't get that, then I'm interested in getting the least expensive 3.5*.But do let me know if you think it's too early to get some of the good deals and I should wait til it's somewhat closer to the date of my stay.Thank you!! I'll be sure to use the links you provide.
AaronJB Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 I definitely don't think it's too early to start bidding for August. Are you seeing any listings of interest on HOTWIRE when searching for these dates?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
ashtx Posted June 24, 2011 Author Report Posted June 24, 2011 Thanks for the input! Yes-- on HOTWIRE I've found a 4.5* (pretty sure it's The Fairfax at Embassy Row) for $118. Do you think that's as good as it gets and I should book it instead of risking it with PRICELINE?
thereuare Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.... please click both these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links, then reply to this thread and we'll have a further look at your stay above.Thanks. thereuare Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 ...should book it instead of risking it with PRICELINE?It depends upon your needs/wants for this stay... if you're hoping for this particular property and you feel you've identified it, then i would take the HOTWIRE offer since it appears to be what you want and just about within your budget. If you're willing to accept any 4* hotel in this zone, as all would work for your needs, and you don't need any specific amenities for this stay, then you could likely do a little better by bidding thru PRICELINE.Let us know how it goes or how you'd like to proceed and we'll try to be of further assistance. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
