If you can suggest a strategy for a 3.5* or 4* level hotel. I would ideally like to spend no more than $150 but willing to pay a bit more for a higher rated hotel. I want to stay central so i'm thinking TS, MTE, MTW. I don't want to walk more than 15mins to a subway. I prefer not to have a small room (but I know it's common in NYC). As this is a big anniversary trip for us, I'd like something roomier :) (though I know there's no guarantees with PL). Thanks again!!

I would like to try bidding up to $150 first before trying 3.5*. I've seen some 4* in the MTE zone that came in under $150 but I know that Aug in NYC tends to be more expensive than other times. Tks.

Based upon current rates and the three zones you're willing to accept at the 4* level i think you'll likely come up short, but to give it a try:

At the 4* level in NYC you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* TS, MTE, MTW...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $150

Any questions feel free to ask.

Tks and you're right. Tried the above and no go. If I decide to try 3.5* what would be the strategy?? Or do you think 3.5* won't meet what i'm looking for and I should just increase my budget on the 4*?? Tks.

It's a little difficult to say, and it really depends - I think that there are some properties at the 3.5* level in a number of zones in NYC that are very nice, but there are a number that aren't quite as nice or are examples of hotels that would not be everyone's cup of tea - some of people may love the trendy Hudson in CPS, but others may hate it. The 3.5* level in MTE has a couple of hotels that are far E in MTE. There are a couple of 4* properties that may not be everyone's cup of tea, but they generally get at least fairly good reviews. Also, in terms of reviews, it is a little tough in NYC to use reviews as a guide, given that you're reading people's reviews of hotels that may have cost $300-400 and at that level, there's no way of meeting expectations. I think you MAY have a chance at the 4* level if you continue increasing by $5's up to $175.

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

If I decide to now include CPS and ESB as well as TS, MTE, MTW what should my strategy be seeing as I have already bid unsuccessfully to $150 for 4* in the 3 zones? My limit would be $175.

No luck bidding on 4* up to $175 for those dates :) I'm thinking of changing to 3.5* with same price range but not including CPS. Would I use same strategy but just not incl CPS? Tks again for all the advice.

One more note about bidding 3.5* and including MSG... the Affinia Manhattan is in this zone and while the hotel typically gets very good reviews, there are also reports of PRICELINE guests getting a handful of rooms in the building which are sub-par to the rest... they're very small and don't have kitchenettes as many of the other rooms at the property do. Some users have been upgraded by complaining, some only by paying an additional fee, and some not at all. Usually it's something that you can probably 'deal with', but given this is an anniversary trip i figured i'd mention to confirm if you want to include this zone or not.

Please let us know and we'll advise accordingly.

I thought I was going to be out of luck when I followed your strategy and entered my very last bid of $175/nite. Well, wouldn't you know it, I won the Millenium Broadway!! :)

Total paid for 4 nights: $854.32 (including taxes)

Very happy since I actually bid all the way up to $195/nite for a 4* with no success for those dates. Thanks again for all the great advice!!!
