calgarykim Posted June 23, 2011 Author Report Posted June 23, 2011 Yes, it is now - the price dropped between Tuesday & Wednesday. Prior to that the best base rate (Fox) was about $450/week. and the $50/day I bid was rejected.
thereuare Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 Is the above thru Fox Rent a Car? If so, are you comfortable with a second tier rental agency? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. calgarykim Posted June 24, 2011 Author Report Posted June 24, 2011 I don't know much about a second tier rental agency and why I wouldn't be comfortable with them, is that a larger risk? I think the problem with the bidding is that it is a one way rental which is why the bid isn't being accepted. I tried again yesterday bidding at $50, when then the base price was $318, and with taxes fees up to $503,but it was still rejected.
thereuare Posted June 24, 2011 Report Posted June 24, 2011 I don't know much about a second tier rental agency and why I wouldn't be comfortable with them, is that a larger risk? It's one of comfort level... the larger (top tier) companies have a better reputation, more at stake in maintaining their vehicles, more professional to deal with (more reports of high selling pressure for insurance and other add-ons at the second tier companies), and should you have any problems (mechanical issues or an accident) the top companies usually have branches (and repair shops) nearby to assist in the situation and get you back on the road again (where many of the second tier companies likely won't have offices nearby)Plenty of people rent from the second tier players every day without issue, but there are some who prefer to stick with the nationally recognized names for the reasons above. As well, if the current best rate is thru Fox (or some other similar company) it's not one that PRICELINE works with thru their 'name your own price' model so shouldn't be used as a basis for determining a likely accepted bid. What is the best rate thru one of the nationally recognized brands? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. calgarykim Posted June 24, 2011 Author Report Posted June 24, 2011 We decided to rent directly from Budget using a BCD code that we found online which matched pricelines best quote. We bid within 7 dollars per day of the priceline quote for Budget and we still did not get accepted. We can continue to watch the market to see if the price drops, but in the meantime we have a car. Thanks for your help.
thereuare Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 If you didn't, please note from our support page that we're an affiliate of Budget as well as many other national (and region) car rental agencies... please check for and use the links there whenever possible.Let us know if any changes to your reservation or if we can be of further help down the road.
