soopra Posted June 20, 2011 Report Posted June 20, 2011 I'm new to this site and will click through the PRICELINE links beginning today. I have been bidding for a resort level hotel in Kaanapali-Lahaina for the last 2 weeks with no success. I'm getting a bit frustrated because, according to the calendar of wins, there have been 3 successful bids for the same exact level and location within 3 days of my travel date @ $146 a night but I've been rejected with bids as high as $175 a night. I would like to stay in the Kaanapali-Lahaina area because I like all the resort hotels in the area (with the exception of the Whaler) but I would take the Wailea Marriot in Wailea-Makena as a back up in the $140 range.I've been using all 4 regions in Maui for re-bids, so I've been bidding as much as 4 times a day.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.Thank You!
thereuare Posted June 21, 2011 Report Posted June 21, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! It may still be early to compromise, but is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? Thanks in advance for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. soopra Posted June 21, 2011 Author Report Posted June 21, 2011 Thanks for the advice.Do you know if there is a correlation between the hotels on HOTWIRE and PRICELINE? I was looking at Hotwire and they don't list any resort style hotels during my time frame so I'm thinking Priceline has been rejecting me because they simply don't have any inventory as well. Am I off base on this theory?
thereuare Posted June 22, 2011 Report Posted June 22, 2011 Not all hotels participate with both services and each service uses their own criteria to rate properties, so what is rated a Resort thru one service may be 4* rated with the other service (and HOTWIRE doesn't even use a Resort rating, instead using that as an amenity icon)Had you tried bidding again today? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. soopra Posted June 22, 2011 Author Report Posted June 22, 2011 I did bid today through the link. I was rejected at $150-$165. I think I'll cut back on my bidding from daily to weekly. I can't handle the rejection :)
thereuare Posted June 22, 2011 Report Posted June 22, 2011 I would bid twice a week... daily is too often while once per week may not be enough.Keep us updated and let us know if we can be of further help along the way. Please remember to use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your bidding each time. Thanks, and good luck. soopra Posted June 27, 2011 Author Report Posted June 27, 2011 I finally got a bid accepted! I was playing around late at night last weekend through Priceline's iphone app and my bid of $143/night was accepted for the Hyatt Regency. I was a bit surprised because I was expecting either the Sheraton or Westin but at $143 I'll take it. I still have to bid on a rental car and will for sure go through the links on this site. Thanks for all the help.
lamboworld Posted June 27, 2011 Report Posted June 27, 2011 That is a great price. I have stayed at the Sheraton and the Hyatt and we liked the Hyatt better.I am going about a month later than you and I got accepted at the Sheraton for $161.
soopra Posted June 28, 2011 Author Report Posted June 28, 2011 Hope this isn't to off-topic but I've been doing my homework on the Hyatt now that I know that's where I am staying. Anything to lookout for or tips about the Hyatt? After reading a ton of reviews my impressions are that the pool is great but the beach at the Sheraton is much better and the parking lot at the Hyatt is really small. Thanks!

jmoosman Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 We've stayed at the Hyatt, the Westin, and the Sheraton previously. The Hyatt is a lovely hotel with a great pool, but seriously no beach. We were so disappointed by that (as beach to us is very important!) that when we stayed there, we simply drove down to the Sheraton each day, parked in their garage, and spent the day at their beach snorkeling etc. When we stayed at the Westin, the beach was nice and you could walk down to the Sheraton for snorkeling. I'm sure you could walk from the Hyatt too but it's quite a little walk.Hope this helps!
