I have been bidding on a 3* or 3.5* in Garden Grove, CA (using the PRICELINE link above) for the past few weeks with no luck. I have bidding from $42-$51 and keep getting rejected. I've read the thread on determining re-bid zones, but don't really want to bid in other areas since I don't want to risk getting accepted elsewhere. Or maybe I'm not understanding that concept?

Please help! Am I bidding too early since our stay is still over a month away?

Dates 8/6-8/15

3* or 3.5* in Garden Grove, CA

Thanks!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

First regarding your bids... this is summer which is peak season for this area since there are lots of Disneyland trips while the kids are out of school. Therefore it may take a little more then previous winning bids given the higher demand. As well, this is a 9 nite stay which and longer stays such as this can be more difficult to win (especially if they take place during high-season). What is your maximum bid for this stay? Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option?

Second, regarding re-bidding. Given the following scenario:

ZoneA: highest star level is 2*

ZoneB: highest star level is 3.5*

If you bid on ZoneA and ZoneB, with a minimum star rating of 3.5*, do you see how the hotel you win must be in ZoneB? Do you know how to determine your re-bid zones?

Let us know the above and we'll take it from there.

Thanks! I will try splitting my bid and hope that helps!

I also went back and re-read the "re-bidding zone" info and I understand it now. I checked and it looks like Anaheim Hills and Laguna Beach both don't have 4* or 3.5* hotels available (they were grayed out).

I will re-bid and will let you know if I win!

Thanks again

You have 2 of your 3 re-bid zones at the 3.5* level, please check again and see if you can determine the third one. If not, list each zone and the highest star rating available in each and we'll determine where you're going wrong.

I was able to determine the third free re-bid zone as Seal Beach not having 3.5* or 4*.

Unfortunately, I keep getting rejected even after decreasing my length of stay. I'm not going to give up though! We still have some time and I'm also decreasing the star category and bidding in my preferred zone only with the decreased star category.

Any other tips are greatly appreciated!

Thanks

I have bid up to $50 on the 3* and up to $48 on 2.5*. I saw only one 2.5* hotel listed on this site under the orange county-garden grove area, and priceline shows 3 hotels. Have you heard of anyone winning other hotels in this star category? PL has the hampton inn in this category...any chance in winning that one? :-)

The hotels on the retail side of PRICELINE (direct purchase) give some clues as to what one might win from bidding. It is certainly a possibility that you could get the Hampton Inn.

HOWEVER, one can bid and win a hotel that doesn't appear on the retail side, and some hotels in the retail side never appear as bidding wins.

The hotels listed in the first post in this Orange County - PRICELINE area are all those that somebody has been kind enough to report here as wins. Several times I've gotten a completely new hotel not on the list. The hotel list was updated practically immediately.

well, after trying many different bids (changing dates, changing star levels, using free zones) I decided to try for Buena Park and Garden Grove...and I was accepted for 8 of my 9 nights! I will post my win in a minute.

I'm sort of feeling like it does after you buy a car..."maybe I could have gotten a better deal" but I'm happy with my win considering that my stay is longer than most winning bids, and also it's free parking (which will save me a ton, had I won for Garden Grove)!

Thanks to this forum for many great tips!
