jubacca Posted June 12, 2011 Report Posted June 12, 2011 Hi,I've spent hours researching on this website and am very thankful for the wealth of information! There's 5 of us visiting NYC between Oct 20-26 and we were close to booking two 3 1/2 star rooms on Hotwire in Midtown East for $268+tax (Recommended in 85% of reviews, Fitness Centre, Restaurant, Business Centre and High Speed Internet Access). We've never considered Priceline as we understand we may not get a room for 3 people. However, I noticed someone else was successful in getting 3 rooms for Oct 23-25, 4* NYC (Times Square-Theatre District) Marriott Marquis for $175+tax and Oct 25-29 Millennium Broadway thru Hotwire at $128USD+tax! (Hotwire Hotel NYC)Hence, we thought we'll try our luck with 3 bedrooms on Priceline. I've increased my bid to $195 and included these rebid zones TZ-MTW-MTE-HK-ESB-MSG-CPS but was rejected. I'm wondering if I'm doing anything wrong as the price we're paying seems to be a lot higher.I understand we are visiting NYC in an expensive time and I might try and rebid in 24hours and increase the bid to our max bid of $210 and if I am still unsuccessful, we will have to try 3 1/2star.Should I try:Bid $200 TS,if rejected add re-bid zone (MTW)Bid $205,if rejected add re-bid zone (MTE) Bid $210, if rejected add HK-ESB-MSG-CPSIf we are still unsuccessful and wish to bid for 3 1/2 star, what do you think is a reasonble price to start bidding?Thank you!
thereuare Posted June 12, 2011 Report Posted June 12, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding!Rates are date specific, so even though the previous win you referenced takes place within your (longer) date range, it's not uncommon that you wouldn't be able to replicate the same winning bid. Even adding/removing just one day can effect what is needed to win a hotel. This is where SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID can come into play, but not sure if changing hotels during this trip is something you (and the rest of your group) are willing to do.If you want to continue bidding for 3 rooms up to $210, is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better in any of these zones:TZ-MTW-MTE-HK-ESB-MSG-CPS(i'm assuming 'TZ' is Times Square??)If so, note that in the CPS zone is the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small rooms, even by NYC standards, please confirm if this would be acceptable. As well, in the MTE zone there are a few hotels which can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway, please let us know if this too is acceptable.Confirm the above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow (or feel free to ask any questions regarding SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID that you may have)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jubacca Posted June 12, 2011 Author Report Posted June 12, 2011 We did consider changing hotels and will be happy to do so thats what we have to do to pay less for our rooms. However, we're leaning towards splitting it into max of 2 hotels as 3 of us will be staying an additional night in NYC until Oct 27th. And yes, TZ (typo!) is Times Square. For 3 1/2 star rooms, i think we'll exclude CPS and MTE and might reduce our max bid to $200.
