iwantagooddeal Posted June 17, 2011 Report Posted June 17, 2011 Hi, I'm looking for a hotel room for a special trip....I would like to stay near Times Square.... in Midtown west or Central Park South or even Times Square. I would like a 4* hotel...possibly a 3.5*. I'm looking for the lowest price that I can get and would love help with a bidding strategy and a good price to start bidding considering the dates of our travel which are 6-9 July. Thank you for any help you can provide!!!
thereuare Posted June 17, 2011 Report Posted June 17, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! Are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* OR is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this stay? What is your maximum bid for this stay?If bidding 4*, have you also considered MTE and/or ESB as these typically work out well for the average user too. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know the above and we'll take it from there. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
iwantagooddeal Posted June 17, 2011 Author Report Posted June 17, 2011 Hi, thank you so much for helping!!! I would like to have the least expensive 4* hotel possible in those areas....ESB may be too far south, but I will look again at the map. I don't know at what price to begin my bidding. Yesterday, I began by bidding 140 night for these areas (TS, MTW, CPS)....obviously, I didn't get the deal. I started with 140 at cps, then added mtw bid, then added ts...all at the $140 level.Thank you so much!
thereuare Posted June 17, 2011 Report Posted June 17, 2011 Please look at the zones first and determine if you'd like to include MTE and/or ESB or not, as that will effect the bidding strategy we suggest. As well, we'll help with a starting bid price, but we need to know your maximum bid price so we don't suggest a strategy that goes higher then you're willing to pay. I'm guessing you have a good chance of success in your current zones at $165 or under... perhaps $10 or so less if you're willing to include both MTE and ESB.Let us know regarding your maximum bid and the zones and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. iwantagooddeal Posted June 22, 2011 Author Report Posted June 22, 2011 I think I would like to stay in the MTW, CPS and TS region and I would be willing to bid up to 165, but of course, would prefer lower. Thank you for your help!!!!!
thereuare Posted June 22, 2011 Report Posted June 22, 2011 At the 4* level you have SIX re-bid zones. iwantagooddeal Posted June 22, 2011 Author Report Posted June 22, 2011 OK, thanks....I do have a question. Once I go through the choices and adding the 6 rebid zones....I have to wait 24 hours....is that correct. You gave me 3 sets of bidding strategies, but am I limited to one set per day? So, I begin with the first one, 4*mtw,ts....go through the rebid zones and if I don't win at 145, then the next day to I proceed? Sorry if this is obvious, but I just want to make sure I'm understanding it!
thereuare Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 You can bid all 3 sets of bids above on the same day... if bid in the order posted ,each bid is unique and does not appear previously in the bidding cycle, and therefore none are duplicate bids from a previous bid in the cycle.Let us know if you have further questions and/or how it goes. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Grappler04 Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 I'm trying to find a similar stay for July 7th-11th. I think I understand the process. I only see 5 re-bid zones. They are Brooklyn, LaGuardia, Kennedy, Long Island, and Bronx with no 4*. Also, when trying to do the name your own price, I don't see LaGuardia, Kennedy, or Bronx as potential re-bid areas. Is it because I don't know that LaGuardia, Kennnedy, and Long Island are in one of the listed parts of town? Thanks for the help.
thereuare Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Grappler04,Welcome to BetterBidding! It appears you are using the 'retail' offers from PRICELINE to determine your re-bid zones, but this is NOT what you want to do. The only way to determine your re-bid zones is outlined here: Priceline Re-Bidding Explained. Feel free to read this link and then if you have any questions, or would like help for your own stay, please start a NEW TOPIC.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Thanks. ocabs Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Tried all bids in the suggested strategies. Did not get accepted.
AaronJB Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 Ocabs,Welcome to Betterbidding.Rates are different for different dates, and your dates may require a higher bid. Please post a new thread if you require assistance for your stay.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
iwantagooddeal Posted June 25, 2011 Author Report Posted June 25, 2011 I have been looking on Priceline for a 4* hotel in CPS, TS or MTW and have bid up to 171 without any luck on the dates 7/6 thru 7/9. On Hotwire, I found a hotel in MTE (which I didn't include on my bids thus far) for $167....it is recommended by 90 percent of reviewers, has fitness center, restaurant, business center and spa. It is a super savings at 167 per night. Can anyone ID this hotel....and should I rebid on Priceline at a lower offer and include MTE or just get this offer through Hotwire? Please help and thanks!
AaronJB Posted June 26, 2011 Report Posted June 26, 2011 Is the HOTWIRE listing also showing internet?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
iwantagooddeal Posted June 26, 2011 Author Report Posted June 26, 2011 Yes it does....also it is up to 175 this morning. Does HOTWIRE add a booking fee charge on top of the hotel cost as does PRICELINE?Also, for 187 there is a TS property with a fitness center, internet, business center and restaurant recommended by 80 percent of customers. I don't know how far the MTE property would be from the TS area where I will be visiting with my young daughter. Thanks
thereuare Posted June 27, 2011 Report Posted June 27, 2011 HOTWIRE adds a booking fee, similar to PRICELINE.The MTE property is a match for the W New York so that would be my best guess for this one. What is the star rating of the Times Square property (or would you be bidding higher on PRICELINE anyway since this HOTWIRE rate is more than you've already tried bidding)What are the cross streets you need to get close to in order to visit your daughter? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
