I'm new to this board and new to Priceline, I just tried to search for 4* Downtown-Soho hotel help but the search feature seems to not be working.

So I am looking for a hotel for 8/13 - 8/18, 4 sars.

Problem is the area categories are Downtown-Soho-Financial District and the Chelsea area

I only want 1 hotel in that Chelsea area and only Downtown or Soho, not Financial District

According to Priceline for those dates 8/13 - 8/18

4* Downtown-Soho-Financial District

Soho

Soho Grand - $311

The James (Soho) - $328 - apparenty 5 rooms left

Mondrian (Soho) - $219

Downtown

Tribeca Grand (Downtown) - $279

60 Thompson (Downtown) - $308 - also apparently 5 rooms left

Financial District

Millenium Hilton - $299

W New York - $254

Andaz Wall Street - $254

Mariott Downtown - $329

Gild Hall - $207

4* Chelsea Area

The Gansevoort - $348

Hilton Fashion District $309

the Mariott Downtown ($329) and The James ($328) are similar in rate and The James only has 5 rooms left for that rate.

1st Choices

The James - $328

Gansevoort - $348

2nd Choices

60 Thompson $308

Mondrian - $219

How can I bid where I can have the most chances of getting The James or The Gansevoort? Should I wait for all 5 rooms to sell out and get a new rate for a better room? What are my chances of getting my 2nd choices? Am I being too picky and this is impossible and just pay full price? I've checked bids from May and June and no one has won bids for any of them..however, there were very few 4* bids for the areas I am looking at.

Sorry I have so many questions! I really do appreciate any help.

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

Betterbidding's Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins shows wins that have been reported for each date, although unless a stay is for the exact same dates, it does not reflect what may be required for your particular dates, as prices vary significantly from day-to-day.

The hotels in NYC that have been reported as PRICELINE wins can be found here: Priceline Hotel List.

The issue with PRICELINE is that it does require a lot of flexibility in that there is no way to ensure or increase the odds of a particular property. The 60 Thompson is rarely ever seen as a win and the Mondrian has not yet been reported to the board as a PRICELINE win. Overall though, when bidding for a 4* in the Downtown-Soho-Financial area, one has to be willing to accept any property in the zone. HOTWIRE is a better choice, as one can make an educated guess based upon the information given (and you can find the list of reported Hotwire wins here: Hotwire Hotel List), but only one listing shows at each star level in each zone for each set of dates, and there is no guarantee it will be the hotel you are looking for.

Please let us know your thoughts on the above and we would be happy to offer further suggestions if you do want to proceed with HOTWIRE or PRICELINE.

Thank you for using the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches. Additionally, in terms of regular rate, Expedia is offering a $50 gas credit card promotion with stays at some properties in NYC (there is a note: "Book now & get $50 Prepaid MasterCard

catwon,

Please read your messages and click the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE (or Expedia) links on the board before replying.

Let us know how you'd like to proceed (or how it goes) and if we can be of further help, but as AaronJB pointed out, i think HOTWIRE would be the better option for this stay if there are parts of a zone you're not willing to accept. However, i'll add that the hotels you want to 'pick' are not received that frequently thru PRICELINE or HOTWIRE.

Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
