robbrown Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 Hi thereI've just discovered using Priceline and it looks very interesting. I'm in the UK and am looking to book a 4* in London Mayfair/Soho zone for the night of Wednesday July 27th only.So far I have bid $105 + taxes and $110 + taxes. Both bids have been rejected. I read on this site that some people have secured 4* hotels in this region for as low as $80 + taxes. Do you think I should be bidding closer to the time? I'm almost up to my maximum amount already. I might be able to go to $120 + taxes, do you think that this would normally be enough? Many thanks for all the great advice you giveThanksRob
robbrown Posted June 13, 2011 Author Report Posted June 13, 2011 A quick update...I just tried Mayfair/Soho again with other zones that don't have 4* stars - (Hammersmith & Wembley) with $115 and $120 + taxes and still got rejected... do you think there is very little chance of getting a 4* in Mayfair/Soho for this price? Thanks in advanceRob
thereuare Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please start by reading your messages.Nobody can say whether rates will come down, or continue higher, in the weeks ahead, but at the moment your bid is not high enough for a 4* hotel in this zone. Is this the only zone you're willing to accept? How high are you willing to bid before considering other nearby zones? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. robbrown Posted June 13, 2011 Author Report Posted June 13, 2011 HiThanks for the reply. I have now read your email. I'm locked out for 24 hours so tomorrow I'll probably go up to $135 and if that doesn't work I'll try another zone, probably Bloomsbury.ThanksRob
Romelle Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 Bloomsbury tends to be less expensive than Mayfair, so to prevent overbidding you will want to start your lower bid with Bloomsbury, and then add in Mayfair as you increase.RomellePS - I'm just a member, not a moderator, but have learned various hard lessons from quite a bit of personal bidding.
thereuare Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 If you're rejected for your increased Mayfair-Soho bid let us know which zone(s) you're willing to accept and we'll suggest a strategy for you to try. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck with the next round of bidding. robbrown Posted June 13, 2011 Author Report Posted June 13, 2011 Great, thanks both. I'll report back tomorrow!RegardsRob
robbrown Posted June 13, 2011 Author Report Posted June 13, 2011 After a bit more thought I'm willing to go up to $160 + taxes for 4* in Mayfair/Soho (1st choice) and Bloomsbury (Second choice)I would very much appreciate a strategy. It is for just one night only unfortunately Wednesday July 27, 2011RegardsRob
thereuare Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 To confirm... did you want to bid up to $160 for just the Mayfair-Soho zone before including Bloomsbury... or is your goal the least expensive 4* in either of these two zones?Let us know and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. robbrown Posted June 13, 2011 Author Report Posted June 13, 2011 Sorry for the confusion.I think bidding up to $160 + taxes for Mayfair/Soho first would be best. If there is still nothing then I'll try up to the same budget in BloomsburyThank you
thereuare Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 No confusion... just seeking clarification to make sure we approach this with your goals in mind :)Assuming your last rejected bid was at $120, i'd try as follows:At the 4* level you have TWO re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 4* Mayfair...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Mayfair and re-bid zone2...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $140Start with the above and if rejected we'll revise to try again in 24 hours, taking it up to $160, then if that is rejected add Bloomsbury to the mix. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. robbrown Posted June 13, 2011 Author Report Posted June 13, 2011 Thanks thereuareYes, I'm pretty sure i understand the rebidding. The two re-bids zones I need are Wembley & Hammersmith I think but I'll check tomorrow when I can have another crack at it. Will follow your strategy and see what happensRob
thereuare Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 Yes, you have your re-bid zones correct... but always double check just before bidding to make sure that nothing has changed. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck.
